MOPPING UP OPERATIONS UNDERWAY
Mopping up operations are underway across the Metro as the weather has cleared up today.
The strong winds and rains left a trail of destruction with many properties affected, trees tumbled and various areas without power as such stations and electrical poles were damaged.
Our disaster management and human settlements teams are conducting visits in affected areas namely Duncan Village, Zwelitsha, Mdantsane, Breidbach and rural villages around eQonce.
Our electricity department is working on restoring the lights in various sections within the affected areas namely:
• Cambridge
• Buffalo Flats
• Scenery Park
• Gompo
• Beacon Bay
• Dimbaza
• Gonubie
Residents whose areas have no lights are urged to keep appliances switched off as power may be restored unannounced.
MOST AREAS AFFECTED BY OUTAGE RESTORED
Several areas affected by outages and faults following strong winds and persistent rains have been restored.
Our teams had been dispatched to deal with many areas affected from street poles, wires, mini substations and individual households.
The Metro has urged communities not attempt to repair or be in contact with wires that are hanging as this is dangerous but rather report these.

Heavy rains and storm accompanied by wind, lightning and thunder spread through parts of East London and surrounding areas causing damages to buildings and infrastructures.
Roads had to be closed because of flooding as trees were causing obstruction.
Warning was issued by emergency personnels requesting people to heed caution if they were traveling on the roads or remain indoors.
