PRESS RELEASE:
To boost tourism by Hessequa Local Municipality and Western Cape Tourism, a decision has been made to highlight the silhouette of the famous "Sleeping Beauty" landmark, by using solar-powered red lights. This will make the iconic landmark more visible to tourists visiting the Riversdale area.
Mrs. J.O.K. Erasmus from Hessequa Traffic Services has also weighed in on the matter stating that 12.3% of all accidents on the N2 in the Riversdale area are due to tourists trying to "spot the silhouette" of Sleeping Beauty and not paying attention to the road.
International lighting expert, Dr. G.R.A Powell, stated that red lights are easily visible during the day and night, hence the decision on the colour.
