Electric Motor Safety Tips: Protect Yourself and Your Devices!
In today's world, electric motors are a vital part of our everyday lives, powering everything from household appliances to industrial machinery. While these motors provide convenience and efficiency, it's crucial to prioritize safety when working with or around them. Here are some essential electric motor safety tips to keep in mind:
• Proper Installation: Ensure that electric motors are installed by a qualified professional following manufacturer guidelines. This includes proper grounding, correct wiring, and appropriate ventilation to prevent overheating.
• Regular Maintenance: Schedule routine inspections and maintenance for your electric motors. This helps identify any potential issues early on, preventing accidents and improving their longevity.
• Safety Equipment: When working with electric motors, always wear appropriate safety gear, such as gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing. This will shield you from potential hazards and reduce the risk of injury.
• Keep Clear of Moving Parts: Avoid touching any moving parts of an electric motor while it's in operation. Even small motors can cause serious injuries if mishandled. Remember to turn off the motor and disconnect the power before attempting any maintenance or repairs.
• Adequate Ventilation: Ensure that electric motors have sufficient ventilation to prevent overheating. Avoid placing them in enclosed spaces or obstructing air vents. Adequate airflow will help maintain their efficiency and reduce the risk of fire hazards.
• Proper Storage: Store spare electric motors in a clean, dry area away from flammable materials. Keep them protected from dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures to maintain their functionality and extend their lifespan.
Remember, safety should never be compromised when it comes to working with electric motors. By following these tips, you can create a secure environment for yourself and those around you.
If you have any additional safety tips or stories to share, please leave a comment below. Let's work together to spread awareness and promote safe practices!
Stay safe and empowered,
Don't Let Your Electric Motors Burn Out!
Let's talk about something essential for all the motor enthusiasts out there: preventative maintenance for electric motors.
Electric motors power a wide range of machinery and equipment, from industrial applications to everyday appliances. Taking good care of them not only ensures their longevity but also helps prevent unexpected breakdowns and costly repairs. Here are a few tips to keep those motors running smoothly:
•Keep it Clean: Regularly clean the motor and its surroundings to remove dust, debris, and dirt. A clean motor operates more efficiently and has better heat dissipation, reducing the risk of overheating.
•Lubrication is Key: Ensure proper lubrication of bearings and other moving parts. Remember to use the right type and amount of lubricant as specified by the manufacturer.
•Check Connections: Check for loose or corroded electrical connections.
•Inspect Insulation: Regularly inspect the motor's insulation system. Look for signs of wear, cracks, or deterioration in the insulation material. Damaged insulation can lead to electrical faults or short circuits, so address any issues promptly.
•Mind the Load: Avoid overloading the motor beyond its rated capacity. Excessive loads can strain the motor and cause it to overheat. Refer to the manufacturer's guidelines and ensure that the motor is operating within its recommended limits.
•Schedule Maintenance with ACDC Winding: Create a maintenance schedule and stick to it. Periodic inspections, testing, and servicing can catch potential issues before they become major problems.
Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! By following these simple maintenance practices, you can keep your electric motors humming along smoothly, save money on repairs, and prevent unplanned downtime.
If you have any additional tips or experiences to share, feel free to comment below. Let's keep our motors in top shape! 💪🏻⚙️

Why has my electric motor stopped working?
If you’re involved in plant operations, maintenance, or productions, we know how important industrial motors are to your day-to-day productivity and annual revenues.
The list of possible causes of motor failure can go on forever, we have listed some of the most common ones to help you identify the cause and solution:
1. High Temperatures and Heat
Exposure to high heat is the most common reason for motor malfunctions and deterioration. Ideal running temperatures extend motor life, which is why it should be your priority.
2. Exposure to Dust and Contaminants
Electric motors should be placed in enclosures to protect them from dust and contamination, however, minute particles can still be present and contaminate the motor.
3. Power Surges and Other Supply Issues
Occasionally, motors can draw in more current than they are designed for or are affected by current surges. For this reason, we recommend installing Variable Speed Drives that can handle power surges, to increase the longevity of your motor.
4. Excessive Humidity and Exposure to Moisture
A Humid environment and moisture can damage insulation and varnish in an electric motor, causing extreme damage. Pollutants in the air and moisture are the perfect recipe for motor corrosion and they can shorten a motor’s life.

We recently had the special opportunity to experience and learn about the conservation of rhino's within the Limpopo region; all made possible by the 911 Rescue Project.
Through their conservation, they provide emergency rescues of rhinos with the aid of helicopters for injured or orphaned rhinos, due to predominantly poaching, as well as any injuries sustained otherwise.
ACDC Winding acknowledges the importance of protecting these animals, and thus donated towards both the darting and dehorning; which reduces poaching rates significantly. During the safe sedation of the animals, professional veterinarians conducted and recorded valuable health research; which helped gain more insight and knowledge into these animals, in order to preserve the future of conservation of them.
It was both a great privilege and pleasure to work alongside Dr. Douw Grobler, Dr. Gerhardus Scheepers, as well as Rhino 911 pilot, Nico Vermaak.

Do you want to increase the voltage of your motor?
Electric motors work by converting electrical energy to mechanical energy to create movement. As the strength of a current increases so does the strength of the magnetic field. Thus, the voltage must increase to maintain the same current as resistance increases.
Contact us if you want to know more about your motor's capability or increase the voltage of your motor for increased output.

How to check if your electric motor is faulty.
Most electric motors, whether AC or DC, fail after time for reasons that may not be electrical in nature. Checking any type of malfunctioning motor follows a rational progression of steps.
1.Identify the type of motor and examine its nameplate information. The type of motor will verify the types of tests you will do to troubleshoot it.
2.Inspect mechanical binding or seized bearings. If you feel resistance or hear rasping or scratching sounds when you rotate the shaft by hand, the bearings may be worn out or damaged.
3.Check for shorts between the windings and ground.
If you want to know more about your motor's capability or would like to schedule electric motor maintenance in Gauteng, contact ACDC Winding.
