Cape Camino
Our mission is to facilitate a Camino Way, with space for personal reflection and growth. We also showcase those who accommodate, feed and transport us.
Our journey will take us to Places of Grace, local neighbourhoods, natural wonders, historical events and milestones.
Pilgrims on their annual journey, bringing in the new generation.
They too will travel their paths across the world! Facing difficulties and overcoming challenges!
Instinctively!

Sharing a warm, comforting meal on Camino is so good for the soul. Sometimes we may want to have the evening to ourselves, quietly reading a book while having supper. But on most occasions, the evenings are for connecting, laughing, resting the body and regaining morale for your next day of walking.

When you walk into Velddriff, built on the Berg River mouth estuary, you will always see a large display of bird species.
And old man Heron is always one of them. Stalking fish in the shallow waters!

When the route reaches Velddriff it splits in two- one goes down the West Coast and the other goes upstream to Hopefield.
This is when you jump on Cracklin' Rosie River Tours. Wendy and her partner Nico take you on a wonderful trip lined with Berg River birds and drop you off at Cloetieskraal where you walk to Schaftplaas.

Cape Camino | Pilgrim's journey, walk, adventure, meditation in nature The Cape Camino: Personal Pilgrimage between mountains & oceans. Walking adventure, nature, meditation, fellowship, sacred spaces. Cape Town & surrounds.
Winelands: A Symphony of Senses and Spirit.
Wind your way through forested footpaths, valleys and charming towns. Visit traditional sacred spaces like the Spiritual Centre in Wellington and the Shrine in Tulbagh. Meet local craftspeople who produce wine, and provide locally sourced meals to passing pilgrims.
Lana Pedro writes:
"My best friend and I walked 4 days of Cape Camino from Hermon to Tulbagh. Along the way we were swept up in the Camino hospitality and generosity of chaperones and hosts - giving of their time and opening up their homes to us. The scenery and routes of our walks were so beautiful and although some roads never seemed to end, we were always greeted at the other end by smiling faces, a comfortable bed, a hot shower and the energy to do it all again the next day."

The route is hosted by diverse sacred spaces and local communities, supporting the South African small business economy. It is an ongoing event, hosted by Grace.
And the goal is to facilitate Peace, Unity and Thriving in our magnificent land.

If you want to of course? If you want to get horizontal and recover from the walk from Afsaal- that too is appropriate.
No obligations, expectations, duties, responsibilities, commitments etc! Your Camino is all yours!

Every one walks a Camino for different reasons- well ? Not everyone! About 25 % still walk it to examine their sacred self- to endure hard times and grow emotionally and spiritually in the process. To discover the self and learn one’s limits, and other strengths.
Some walk it to meet like minded people. Some to discover this beautiful land. Some to get away from the hustle and bustle.
And I’m sure there are many more motivations!
But whatever your reason is- it is always up to you to find, or at least to seek, what motivates you. There is an internal locus of control. It’s not up to the hosts, or the chaperones, or the weather or anything, or anyone, to provide you with what it is that you looking for!
This is what sets it apart from a hike or a holiday!

Pilgrim journals
Many of our pilgrims measure and track their days walk!
This is so helpful. But it’s also so interesting how each person will have a different distance for the same Leg!
Even when we do the same journey on the same day, we walk a different path! See and experience different things. Process the journey differently. Such is life.
Make sure you make your Camino yours!

Your journey begins now..
The Cape Camino route is yours to explore. It offers time and space for an introspective journey; to heal heartaches, to cleanse, to forgive, to feel, to understand and to enjoy this wonderful life.
Its also one of the most beautiful natural settings on the planet. The Cape Peninsula, South Africa, is rich with views, shorelines, wine farms, forests, fynbos thickets, canopied footpaths, indigenous birds, insects, wild animals.
Let diverse sacred spaces inspire you. Let communities and neighbourhoods evoke kindness. Let local people offer unique goods and services. And let yourself be filled with gratitude, with each next step you take.
140km and expanding, the route is peri-urban, encompassing Cape Point in the south and the city of Cape Town in the north, crossing over on the Vlakkenberg Ridge.
