Looking back on 2020, I think it has been one of the most challenging ones I have experienced...but with challenges come great lessons.

I learned that I cannot control every single thing. Sometimes we just need to flow with it.
I learned the importance of connecting with myself and doing more of what makes me feel alive.
I learned that connecting with others is good for the soul.
I learned to be grateful for all that I have and that I need less than I thought I did.
I learned that kindness doesn’t cost a thing, yet it is so valuable.
I learned to share more... more of myself as well as what I have.

My goal for 2021 is to use these lessons and to continue learning and growing.

What are some of the lessons you learned this year that you will be using in 2021?

You are so blessed!

It’s easy to forget this and get caught up in negativity. Personally I’ve been feeling a little defeated lately, but the rain over the past days has reminded me that I am blessed even when I don’t recognize it...

This week, I am committing to consciously focusing on all my blessings and the things I am grateful for.

What makes you come alive?

I remember my very first yoga class, I couldn’t touch my toes and I actually left the room halfway through... but something in me made me go back in. It may have been the teacher who was rather convincing or it may have been my competitive streak... if everyone else in the room could do this, then so could I.

We did toe stand in that class, a pose that I just could not do, no matter how much I practiced. I eventually gave up.

I’ve since realised that I don’t have to be able to do what everyone else can, and after many years, I decided to start including the pose in my practice again. I am finally able to get it...on some days 🙂

Yes, balance is still a challenge for me, but this pose is a celebration of my journey and the changes in my body, my ideas and my life in general.

As a side note, my only concern when I registered for my YTT with was that I struggled to touch my toes. 😂 It’s really not as big a deal as we think it is.

I’m trying to find this balance between control and surrender, both on my mat and off... It’s hard work for a super planner.

Stay close to people who feel like sunshine.

A year ago I enrolled in 200hr YTT. Other than lots of yoga and lectures, I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I ended up meeting and learning so much from these rays of sunshine, who are also fantastic yoga teachers.

I’m still learning to ride the waves of emotions I have been experiencing during this pandemic...

Lesson 1: We are all on a different wave and trying not to fall, so be patient and kind to yourself and others.

And just like that 21 days have passed. There is a lot that I miss and look forward to after the lockdown ends. I have achieved my personal challenge of 21 daily posts and won’t be posting as much for the rest of our time at home, but I did want to share this... a self care checklist for the remainder of the lockdown. It pretty much covers all the things I need to do for myself.

Remember to take care of yourself. Do the things that make you feel good. And don’t beat yourself up for not sticking to routines, diets, courses, challenges, etc.

Day 21: Today, I reflect on the past 3 weeks. This was initially supposed to be the last day of the lockdown and I’m taking the time out to process how I feel, journal and have gratitude for all that I have.

Day 20: Taking care of myself by moving my body and getting some exercise in today. I’m also quite chaffed that I’ve finally learned to skip 😂

Day 19: Listening to music is a great way to lift your mood. I spent today finding awesome tracks and creating playlists for yoga classes. Can’t wait to share them in class!

Day 18: I really miss eating out! Today I decided to make some gnocchi...one of my favourite things to order at Italian restaurants. I also decided to have lunch out in the garden for a change of scenery

Day 17: Getting into those corners, rearranging furniture and cleaning out my closet...an attempt to freshen things up and make my space feel different as I settle in for the rest of the lockdown. The only thing missing is some fresh flowers 🌷
