A big congratulations to all the winners at last night’s South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAS)! It’s so important to honour all the hard work and dedication in our industry.

We are incredibly happy for Sibu Khuzwayo and The Ergo Company winning Best Short Film for The Letter Reader short film, and Gersh Kgamedi for his work on Imbewu: The Seed, which won Most Popular Soap/Telenovela. Well deserved wins to incredibly talented people!

Busy day shooting at Emmarentia yesterday!

In light of recent developments concerning the spread of Covid-19, we at Picture Tree have taken steps to ensure the safety of our cast and crew. There's always a lot going on when working on set, but taking precautionary measures helps ensure everyone stays safe and healthy.

We've utilised face masks and hand sanitiser on set, and are advising people to follow the advice laid out by health organisations to minimise infection and transmission of the disease:

-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
-Stay at home when you are sick and try and keep a distance from others at home.
-Cover your cough or sneeze with a flexed elbow or a tissue, then throw the tissue in the bin.
-Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Sibu Khuzwayo was in LA recently at Pan African Film & Arts Festival to collect his "YouTube Audience Award" at the Short Film Festival, for the incredible The Letter Reader short film. A big congratulations to him and everyone involved!

Sibu is a narrative director with a beautiful visual eye. The performances and cinematic look of his internationally awarded short film “The Letter Reader” bears testimony to the exceptional talent of this young filmmaker. Born in KZN, living between Johannesburg and Nkowankowa, he has an incredibly astute understanding and empathy for realism in terms of performance and location. “I want to take a script and by using my intuition, make it more than entertainment and fiction – it must be real and authentic. It must touch people.”

His huge talent and potential talent, coupled with his gentle soul, his enviable empathy and his deep and re-assuring voice and passion to do good for the world, are going to be missed. Big time.
