Nina Simone once said that, “it is an artist’s duty to reflect the times”. I’m in agreement with her although I understand that we’re not all built for it. It isn’t an easy road to travel because you can’t just speak about it you need to live it. In the same way that men like Solomon Mahlangu did. That men like Tsietsi Mashinini did. A journey in progress 🚧
The history and the future of Africa means more to me nowadays than the imported modern youth culture brought to us through globalisation and urbanisation. I’m searching ways to channel the modern culture so that it serves the people. Instead of us doing everything to serve this foreign culture 👑 long live! 🖤
I’m working on putting more black history and black power themes in my raps. It’s hard to get this right without sounding corny. But I’m working on it 🫡
Dope running into talented Jae Nuune rocking that Revenge of the Boom Bap clothing from the homie Kriss Antib 😎🔥
Peace fam! There’s a lot of exciting news to share. Im just avoiding the witches out there who start their stuff as soon as they hear you are making progress. A lot of dope music coming your way 💯😎
I met Mpho at the Shizniz E-tv set. This photo was taken after I was announced as the Shizniz Mixtape King for 2014 and he was host of the show with Evan. Very cool cat. Mad professional about his work but also super cool on a social tip. It was brief but dude definitely made an impression on me. Seeing him later taking his acting career to crazy heights was an inspiration. May his soul rest in peace 🙏🏾👑
I was driving when I noticed this legend. Had to jump out the whip and get a snap 🙏🏾😎

"Our Version of Events" - this is the official artwork for the album 🖼🎨🎵🎧.We really put in alot of effort and love this project. A big shout out the producers David Mac who I have know for over 10 years he really understands what makes me tick and he produced 71% of the songs and has helped me curate the whole Project. Ivox a super talented producer from KZN who has a very musical ear and has brought depth to the album and Hoodini who is a brother and a scholar of hip hop who produced a song I titled after him😁. I was blessed to get features from Selema Writes Toxic BMG ,Kelvin Vercetti, The OG Wikid, my Vosloorus brothers Smash &JB.
Last but not least my brother Joint Pusher for mixing and mastering this album 🎛🎚
Honorable mention to Malcom Jiyane who literally painted a canvas for the albums artwork.
I’m of the opinion that my pen as Selema Writes went to a whole new level of creativity. But also, it’s at such a high level that it can be a pigeon-hole that only very evolved minds can understand. High-level meaning skill level. The wordplay is on another plane to where most of what is being done goes over the head of the untrained listener. I was driven by the desire to push the art of wordplay to the next level. I feel like I accomplished that with the three albums: Peace EP, Mermaids LP and BOMAYE! LP.
For my new writing the inspiration is coming from somewhere very different. I already was on a f*** the world mentality on the low. The past four years showed me s**t that basically broke me and I had to build myself up again. And what has been built is miles away from what was destroyed. It is hard to explain but soon you will see and hear what I’m talking about for yourself. I appreciate you for your patience with me as an artist and for continuing to walk this journey with me. Peace! 👑
Shadiq D-tox is one of the realest. I first met him at the tribute of Elsirven Sativa SA event. I was pushing Southside Republik tees and he didn’t hesitate to support. He copped a black and a white tee. Recently it was a tribute event to Safari and he was there reppin in his black Southside tee. This s**t is mad inspiring! A reminder to keep pushing. Salute fam! 💯👑🫡
Representing at 1808 Pimville hop-hop sessions back in the day with my bra 12 Gage when we was Metropolitan Kingz. Soon I’ll start telling the story of our journey. For now it’s important to show how far I’ve come. How I evolved from a crew to solo and the achievements as well as different aliases I held down. It’s Writes Gazi! 💯👑
I met DJ OB Gwala for the first time at BTTC some years ago. At these events it’s a lot of people walking around with huge egos. But OB was different. Dude came to me and gave me props for my set. He told me he believed in me and I should keep going. It may seem small but those words mean a lot to an artist on the grind. Last year, he reached out to me for a verse off his new album. I didn’t hesitate to say yes and sent him the joint back as soon as I laced. In a way I was paying him back for always being a brother with positive energy for cats. Out on all platforms the track features myself, Mo Katalyst and Father Teq and it’s titled, “Black” 🔥🔥🔥 big salute 👑🫡
Yo I gotta give a major shout out to Postman L for inviting me to come perform my verse off his joint “Grimiest Lords” at the Crème de La Crème hip-hop event held by Tuff Jam. It’s very few real ones in the game and dude definitely cut from the cloth. Check out his latest offering called”Treasure Chest Pieces” on all platforms. Salute Lordy! 👑🫡
That time I met Skyzoo at Back to the City. Underground files 💯👑
Learning how to move dolo full-time. I was always the most loyal. Support ni**az through hard times. The homie that brings other homies together. Introduces cats to cats. You would always see me in the whip riding with the homies. But ended up stabbed in the back by almost all my so-called friends and even family. So, this is the dolo era. I might f*x with some people here and there but from here on forward I’m a one-man army. No time for fakes and snakes. Dice Dolo. 👑
Being conscious while being an independent artist spells a death sentence in this world of social media censorship and people bowing down to authority without question. You are expected to shut up and follow the rules on what you can say and what you cannot say. I always knew it was coming but I never thought I'd live to see this time. Let alone be affected to the point where they destroyed my following and engagement on all platforms lol. The new age N***s win again! I have accepted being completely censored on all platforms. But I have not accepted being silenced. I'll keep speaking the truth till I'm in the grave. ALUTA CONTINUA!!! 👑
Have no doubts. Your next move will be your illest 👑
Many years ago I entered a worldwide rap competition called End of the Weak (EOW) and ended up winning the world championship title. In a strange way, it was the height of my life as an emcee and it was also the beginning of the end of my passion for emceeing. Now the organisers overseas would like me to bring the competition back in South Africa. It is exciting but scary at the same time but I’m going to give it a shot. Keep an eye on this space! 🙏🏾👑 (with UK champ Mas Law in pic) 💯
In the same way that history can be a tool of redemption for one man; in the same way history can be a yoke that hangs over the head of another. History is not innocent. No. History bleeds with the sanguine cries of voices too insurmountable to count. In a plane too distant for the ears to hear but at the same time close enough to pierce through the soft flesh of the heart. One should not fear to bleed. This too shall be the nourishment that feeds the tree of freedom. This too shall be the ink that we use to rewrite history. - Selema Writes 👑

KRS-One said: “I'm in this for the art and the culture of it, and I've always made that clear and stood by that. Not that I'm against making money on a record, but that's not my end-all-be-all. That's not my bottom line. My bottom line is respect. Other people's bottom line is money. I think both arguments are correct”. 👑
Y’all are tired of the same ol same ol. Y’all want substance. Y’all want art. Y’all want truth. I am aware 🤲🏾👑
It’s been hard getting to understand the type of content I should post here especially with the way they’re pushing mind control on all these things. But I think I’m finding clarity. One must be careful because they will destroy everything you worked to build in the blink of an eye if you go too far. It’s a game of chess. ♟
Thank you to everybody listening to my project from
November last year, Ditaola EP! Your feedback has been humbling. 🙏🏾👑
