E.M. PÖLLMANN DOUBLE BASS "SALZBURG"
Carved masters instrument by Günter Krahmer-Pöllmann in Mittenwald, Germany. Created for special order in 1984 this instrument is a fine example of outstanding craftsmanship and artistry. The fully carved body, decorative ornaments, the "busseto" corners, and sculpted lion's head make it appear as a piece of art.
Excellent selection of matching figured maple back, sides, and neck with a straight-grained spruce top. The bass has the Pöllmann brand stamped below the neck block button, on the pegbox, and on the original bridge.
At the time of purchase, we found the instrument neglected and in need of restoration. See before and after photos of the restoration below.
Our recent restoration project of a very important and highly valued piece. The intricacy and sensitivity of such work combined with the different materials possessing varying expansion and contraction qualities present a true challenge for the restorer. Withstanding the ravages of time and the variations of the atmosphere. Alternate heat and humidity are even greater enemies of inlaid furniture than time and wear. The restoration process is time-consuming and labor-intensive carrying great responsibility for the preservation of the intrinsic value and esthetic appeal of the piece.
LARGE SIDEBOARD WITH BOULLE MARQUETRY, Napoléon III, probably by G. GROHE (Guillaume Grohé, 1808-1885), Paris circa 1880.
Ebony and red tortoiseshell with fine brass fillets in "première partie". The architectural style front with 3 doors between 2 pilasters. Decorated with fine matte and polished gilt bronze mounts and applications in the form of oval relief medallion, caryatids, beading, and frieze. With a black marble top.
