Mourning the passing of Prof Muxe Nkondo.
Prof was a big supporter of our work at the Puku Children's Literature Foundation. An avid lifelong reader, he understood deeply the importance of children hearing stories & reading books in multiple languages. He pushed for the elevated craft of writing to be upheld in schools.

May your soul rest in peace.
"We realise that South Africa is not the only country that has problems with reading, writing and counting," says Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka. So the Reading Panel reached out to Brazil earlier in the year and fundamentally the teacher's centrality, book resources and political will count.
2030 Reading Panel convenes today at the Kievits Kroon Gauteng Wine Estate for its second annual meeting of the year.
Puku Children's Literature Foundation is honoured to be at the Reading Panel. Our Executive Director Elinor Sisulu has been on the panel since its inception. We hope the MECs for Education, the VCs of universities and the Deans of Education at universities can get us to 2030!

In the process of creating a user-friendly access to rich book metadata through Pukupedia 2.0, we could not have self-publishers left behind.
The first Puku registry focused only on:
* books published by individuals or small businesses
* books for young children - wordfree/wordless books, books for creche / early childhood years, and, picture books for children in primary school
* books in all South African languages, official or unofficial
This first round for self-publishers and small businesses ran for a month from World Book & Copyright Day 2024 (23rd April) until Friday, 24th May. The registry will be made public in early September.

Our Story
"It is my wish that the voice of the storyteller will never die in Africa, that all children in the world may experience the wonder of books, and that they will never lose the capacity to enlarge their earthly dwelling place with the magic of stories” Nelson Mandela
Inspired by Mandela’s words. we work to amplify the voice of our storytellers and to increase the quantity and quality of books in all our languages for all our children. Through our digital platforms and community engagement projects we communicate, advocate and participate in the promotion of books and reading so that the creators, producers and consumers of books for African children will have a more structure and organised system for selecting, reviewing and sharing information.
