It is with great sadness but also undeniable relief that we announce the closure of Waku. It has been an immense journey of personal exploration and growth. Launching during Covid and still managing to build a following of kind and curious customers. Our aim was to build spaces of belonging, particularly for young Muslims experiencing a level of disconnection from their community. We have absolutely loved seeing Waku come to life with music, yoga and salaah all centred around the sharing of good comfort food. It has allowed us to understand what belonging means to us, and what safe spaces could look like. We thank you for all of your support for keeping our doors open for this long! But the time has come to close our doors and venture on to new and different things. We will never forget this time in our lives, and hope that we brought some joy to you and your palettes.

We harvest all our micro greens in the kitchen straight to your plate. Some of the baby plants we use on our dishes include baby Pak Choy, baby arugula and baby cherry belle radish. They add another dimension of flavour and nutrition. Plus they look so cute!
Our micro greens are grown in trays by Mitchell from . Here’s a bit about his story as a local entrepreneur trying to establish himself in the industry.
“My name is Mitchell 26 years old, owner and founder of Growth Microgreens. Growing up I was always around agriculture and animals. A native from DRC so I am french speaking but i was raised in South Africa. I always wanted to start my own farm in my home land to battle food scarcity there. How ever when I realized how much I needed to start my own agriculture land company, that was when my search had begun to find innovative ways to farm. I stubbled across Microgreens which are the younger siblings of baby vegetables as we harvest them before the first true leaves in most cases. I started Growth Microgreens to be able to have something for my son to do as a past time hobby but in doing that I realized how valuable and profitable this industry can be.
In August my father had a stroke due to high blood pressure and he went to hospital for 2 months it was in that instance i did more research on the benefits Microgreens can have once eaten and how to boost your immune system and I have never looked back since it gave me a chance to start making money from this hobby”.
