Jonas Mosa Gwangwa (born 1937 in Orlando East, Soweto) has been an important figure in South African jazz for over 40 years. After the group broke up he continued to be important to the South African music scene and then later abroad. In the 1960s he began to gain noticed in the United States and in 1965 he was featured in a "Sound Of Africa" concert at Carnegie Hall. The others at the concert inc

Mosa Jonas Gwangwa was born in Orlando East, Soweto on 19th October 1937.
The master trombonist whose career is associated with the Jazz Epistles, the Union of South Africa, Shakawe and Amandla Cultural Ensemble will be remembered for classics like Kgomo, Morwa, Flowers of the Nation and Ulibambe Lingashoni.
In 2010 Dr Gwangwa was honoured with the Order of Ikhamanga in Gold.

A lot of our citizens still live in fear, subjugation, squalor & inhumane circumstances.
While we take time out to be with our families & friends or just simply pay our respects to those that lost their lives to protect our freedoms; let us also be conscious that even today:
