The Spring Fast One has something for everyone. Whether you’ve raced in the Winter Fast One or you’re new to the series, you won't want to miss out on this spring challenge. There are four route options: 8km, 20km, 40km and 70km. The 70km is more demanding with great single-track sections and about 1,000m of climbing. The 40km route is less demanding with a mixture of gravel, jeep track and single tracks. Total climbing on the 40km route is 430m. The 20km is a fun event with only 200m of climbing, making it ideal for beginners and young riders.

The jacaranda trees will be blooming, bringing a magnificent display of purple to the city of Tshwane. The 83km will start at the infamous Zwartkops Raceway and then ride through this historic city before returning to Zwartkop, with one lap of the circuit. The 92KM is strictly for CSA licensed riders. It starts with one lap of the race circuit before completing the same route as the 83km, but then finishes with four laps around Zwartkops Raceway. With partial road closure, the route is safe and accessible.

Thaba Ditholo is about 40 mins outside Bela Bela (Warmbaths). While this is a big farm and you're going to have a blast riding the trails, the actual lodge that will host the start and finish is small. There are only a few chalets but plenty of camping space. For accommodation, contact Angelique on [email protected] or 083 403 0207. There are also some budget chalets about 13km from Thaba Ditholo that are available and plenty of other accommodation in the immediate vicinity, such as Waterberg Lodge, Schrikkloof, and Zinyala.

As to the loop, the updated race prep doc will go out shortly, but you can expect significantly less sand. This 50km loop has very little sand and has about 500m of ascent. It is very pretty riding, with some short pieces of corrugations and a few rocky, chunky sections, but we think it is definitely possible to complete 10 laps for the top riders and a very pleasant riding experience for the weekend warriors.

Thaba Ditholo is remote, quiet and intimate. If you camp, you will have a wonderful bush experience. So please note that it is very different to Weesgerus. Some riders have asked if they can still have their families stay at Weesgerus and the answer is yes. It’s about 30 to 40 mins from Weesgerus and you would take the dirt road that was the back part of last year’s route to get there, so if you want to check your family in there the night before, certainly possible.
