📚Where have our Library Boxes gone?📚
You might have noticed that our beloved library boxes in the Lonehill and Lappies Parks are temporarily missing. Don’t worry—there’s no need to be concerned!
They’re currently getting a much-needed refresh. Our dedicated Green Team is hard at work performing essential repairs and maintenance to make sure the boxes are ready for the Spring and Summer rains.
Don't know about them?
The libraries work on a ‘Take a book, leave a book’ system. When you are done with the book, take it back to the box and borrow another book. Read more about it in our latest newsletter...

We aim to have them back in the parks by the 2nd August. 🤞
GIVING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD
Giving back to the place we call home helps to unite the community and bridge some of the environmental challenges we face in the greater Lonehill area.
We are extremely grateful to Firzt Realty Company who have partnered with the LRA on several projects. Each month for the next six, the LRA will be able to carry out a long-awaited project thanks to financial support from Firzt Realty.
The project this month is the repairs to the existing barricade at Lappies Park (Concourse Crescent) and the installation of an additional gum pole fence up to the boundary wall of the Lone Glen complex on Concourse Crescent. Some of the green team are working on this project today and for the rest of the week.
We will post photos when the project is completed and will share more images and reports on the progress of these monthly projects.
A huge shoutout to Firtz Realty Company for giving back to our community, Ann and Desiree look forward to getting to know the Lonehill residents.
A huge thank you to everyone that took part in making our an amazing success. Sothebys Realty Fourways Kids Haven

REMINDER: Johannesburg Water systems are to be impacted by Rand Water maintenance in June, and July 2024
During June and July 2024, bulk supplier Rand Water will be conducting extensive maintenance on their infrastructure from 22 June to 29 July 2024.
This will impact some of its customer’s systems, including Johannesburg Water and other municipalities and industries. This kind of preventative maintenance is imperative to make Rand Water’s systems more efficient and reliable for their customers, such as Johannesburg Water.
The maintenance work will affect Johannesburg Water’s systems that are supplied by the Palmiet and Eikenhof pump stations, as well as the Daleside Booster Station. During this time, Johannesburg Water customers will be impacted by low pressure to no water supply. It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after the supply has been fully restored.
The Greater Lonehill area (Beverley, Lonehill, Lonehill Upper East, and Pineslopes) is fed by Rand Water’s Palmiet pump stations and the Bryanston Reservoir. During this maintenance period, Palmiet Pump station will be reduced as follows:
Monday 01 July 2024 – Palmiet will be pumping 60% for eight hours
Monday 15 July 2024 – Palmiet pumping will be reduced to 68% for 50 hours
Monday 29 July 2024 – Palmiet pumping will be reduced to 76% for 40 hours
Johannesburg Water will make arrangements for alternative water supply at strategic areas like hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations, and shopping centres. However, residents are encouraged to store water in preparation for the maintenance.
Residents will receive regular updates on the official Johannesburg Water social media platforms.

Kudos to our dedicated Green Team for their hard work today! 🌿 They've been busy removing weeds from the paved walkways in Lonehill East, repairing stable fencing, and scooping weeds from the dam. Making our community cleaner and greener! 💚
⚠️SECURITY REPORT⚠️
Just another reason to support the Lonehill Community Improvement Initiative (LCII).
54 meters of perimeter fencing was stolen from the open land on the corner of Witkoppen and Main Road, opposite the Clay Oven.
This was discovered at 05h00 on Monday 13th May by a Fidelity Reaction Officer patrolling the property. We have since learned that on the same night, fencing was stolen from a vehicle dealer on Uranium Road and behind Cedar Square in Fourways.
The LRA immediately posted a Fidelity Officer to guard the property and the Green Team was seen replacing the stolen fencing within hours on Monday afternoon!
This is the role that the LRA plays in our community, this is where your contributions are allocated. The LCII funds are used to protect and IMPROVE our community security, to maintain and IMPROVE our environment, to maintain and IMPROVE our recreation facilities, and to protect and IMPROVE our investment in the Lonehill Lifestyle!
We encourage you to make a change and sign up today!

EASING TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN LONEHILL
We wish to clarify that the traffic controllers who are dressed in Blue and are often controlling traffic at the Main Road/Lonehill Boulevard traffic intersection are employed and deployed by the City of Johannesburg.
The traffic Controllers dressed in bright reflective jackets are from MTC (Monasi Traffic Controlling) a private company that specializes in road safety and traffic management. MTC is currently contracted as a joint venture between Crawford International Lonehill and the LRA. They are deployed during peak school pick-up and drop-off schedules when the traffic lights are non-functional, i.e. load shedding and outages. They are deployed to direct traffic during these peak times only at two intersections, namely Lonehill Boulevard/Concourse Crescent and Lonehill Boulevard/Main Road.

LONEHILL KOPPIE CLOSURE
If you have been wanting to climb the Lonehill Koppie this summer and have not done so yet, you have just this weekend to do so before the Koppie is closed for the winter season.
The koppie closes during the winter months not only to recover from the human trampling that takes place during the summer seasons but also to preserve the food sources for the dassies, reptiles and insects that are found in the koppie.
During this time, we assess the walking paths and carry out required maintenance on the bush, veld, woody plants and trees. We also take this opportunity to remove invasive plant species. The green team work extensively during the winter months in the koppie to ensure its eco system is healthy and strong enough to reopen in Spring.
For most of us the convenience of grocery delivery services is invaluable.
However, the flip side of the industry that boomed over the last three years has recently seen an outcry from motorists protesting about the “cowboy-style” driving of motorcycle delivery guys.
Yes, these drivers are irresponsible, but if it is cold or raining, we phone in an order and expect speedy delivery, even getting impatient if they are five minutes late. While views differ, many of us are of the opinion that these bikes are increasingly becoming a danger on local roads.
Residents have reported seeing delivery bikes driving on pavements to avoid traffic lights, do not stop at stop signs and weave dangerously through the traffic. We have also had reports of delivery bikes taking shortcuts through our servitudes to get to their destination as quickly as possible.
In response to a media inquiry a spokesperson for the Shoprite Group said the importance of safe driving disciplines is continuously reiterated with the various driving teams to improve any shortcomings that drivers may have and members of the public who wish to compliment good or report bad driving behaviour can do so via 0800 006 060 the group stated.
We are going to have to work together to try and ensure safer driving from our delivery bike drivers in the greater Lonehill area by reporting bad driving to the companies the bikers are contracted to. Wherever possible take down license plate numbers and note the time, date, and company name. The more we report the sooner these delivery drivers will know that Lonehill is a “Zero Tolerance” area for fast bad driving!
