INOVEO PLATINUM - New platinum jewellery alloy presents an opportunity for the “jewellery industry of “South Africa: Land of Platinum”

INTRODUCTION
The unveiling of Inoveo Platinum at last month's JCK Las Vegas is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in the global platinum jewellery industry. This groundbreaking alloy, a joint venture between Anglo American of South Africa and Alloyed, combines the best of platinum's properties with white gold's malleability, opening up new possibilities in platinum jewellery design.
INNOVATIVE BREAKTHROUGH
Platinum, valued for its pure white lustre, robustness, and enduring nature, has long presented challenges in jewellery fabrication due to its density and rigidity. Addressing these issues, Inoveo Platinum is crafted to be 40% tougher than standard platinum alloys while boasting considerably reduced porosity and higher production yields. Its timely introduction coincides with South Africa's celebration of the Platinum Centenary.

The launch of Inoveo Platinum at JCK Las Vegas received widespread acclaim, demonstrating its capacity to transform traditional jewellery manufacturing paradigms. Exclusively available through Stuller in the USA, this alloy has redefined expectations by enhancing platinum jewellery's efficiency and visual appeal. Enthusiastic feedback from the event praised its consistent casting, accelerated finishing times, and reduced rejection rates.
Potential for South Africa’s Jewelry Sector:
Despite being the world's foremost platinum producer, South Africa's own platinum jewellery manufacturing is modest, totalling about 0.5 tons annually. The introduction of Inoveo Platinum represents a significant opportunity to elevate local artisanship and expand the use of this precious metal in the domestic jewellery market. Like gold alloys, the alloy's comparative ease of handling positions it as an appealing option for South African jewellers and designers.
PROPOSAL FOR JEWELLEX AFRICA
In line with the ongoing Platinum Centenary celebrations, it is not just a proposal but a call to action that Anglo American Platinum and PGI consider showcasing Inoveo Platinum at the forthcoming Jewellex Africa in Johannesburg. This prominent event could serve as an ideal showcase for this state-of-the-art technology, providing a platform for local industry professionals not just to discover but to be a part of and embrace this new alloy, contributing to its success and the industry's growth.
