Private tours are our absolute favorite. Last week this powerful couple came to South Africa to see the land where the preschool they are sponsoring in memory of their son will be built. To top it off, they got to visit Kya Sand, Soweto, Cradle Moon, Ballito, all of our existing preschools, Thula Thula, Shongweni Market and all of our favorite restaurants. We had such a great time together, creating deep bonds and even more amazing memories than we could have ever anticipated. Last week we teased that we'd be sharing updates on Unyazi Crèche...today is finally the day!! It is said that practice makes perfect, and we are seeing that come alive right now in this construction project. Thobani and his crew learned so much last year while building Bhungeni Crèche. In fact, they learned so much that they are breezing through this construction!! The roofs are on, the electrical plugs are installed, the playground is delivered, and so on. We are working with Junior, a local artist, to create another mural that will truly mark this school as "Calvin's school." We can’t wait for our first teams of the month to arrive! They will be helping to get the toilets, playground & garden ready for the school to offically open. Before we know it, this school will be filled with children, laughter, learning and growing. While school was closed and business owners were on holiday last month, Build the Future Early Childhood Development Training Initiative was open and operating at full speed. On their time off of work, our teachers reported to the classroom Monday - Wednesday for 6 hours each day to invest in their education and building the future in their careers and their families. Thandi poured her mind, heart and soul into investing in each of these ladies, meticulously planning and executing the content. Meanwhile, in the weeks leading up to this 3 day session these teachers were busy completing individual homework assignments while tending to their jobs and families. The focus of this session was How to Establish & Manage an Early Childhood Development Centre (per SAQA Unit Standard 244478). In the session the learners completed group assignments and presented in front of their peers. Everyone left feeling grateful, encouraged and excited about the future. While the work is just getting started, we couldn't be more proud and delighted in the efforts and accomplishments of this magnificient crew. Volunteering is FUN 🎉 It’s been 1 day since we said “see you later” to the Master Provisions team that we had the pleasure of hosting the last 10 days. The team of 12 was able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time. They painted, stained, fixed, encouraged, prayed and shared joy with everyone they encountered. We ended the week with an African safari to celebrate some really hard work.
