Midrand Community Police Forum

CPF Midrand Community Police Forum Community Policing Forums (CPF) were set up to involve all local stakeholders and key organisations in local policing.

They meet regularly with the officers in charge of the local police station and discuss problems and solutions to crime in their area. The adoption of community policing did not only turn around the crime situation, but changed the way the SAPS addresses crime. For community policing to be successful, it is important for members of the community to realise and accept that they also have a social a

Foam Factory in Glen Austin burnt down this morning

14/04/2024

Dear Midrand Residents

An operation was held last night between various stakeholders holding Vehicle Check Points in Waterfall, Noordwyk and Halfway House.

A big impact was made due to the high number of attendees and not only were numerous fines issued for various traffic violations, but a few drunk drivers were detained and no incidents were reported in the areas of the operations during those times.

A big thank you to the members from Midrand SAPS, JMPD, Crime Prevention Wardens, Midrand CPF members as well as Security Personnel from Aragon, Fidelity Waterfall and Hawkeye Security, with a total number of members in attendance reaching 64.

It was a very successful evening and we look forward to the strengthening of the partnership of the members and stakeholders moving forward.

Kind Regards
Tracy Basson
Chairperson: Midrand CPF

On Monday 22 January 2024 the Midrand CPF bade farewell to one of their colleagues, Jason Alexander.
Jason was a great addition to the Midrand CPF. He was keen, focused and had a range of skills that assisted where it mattered most. He was a kind, generous, joyful, intelligent, ethical and friendly person who was always welcomed wherever he was.
He also served with the Search And Rescue team and contributed greatly to that organisation.
The Sector 4 team who he served with most,a s well as additional CPF members, together with the members from Search and Rescue did a stand off at the entrance to the memorial. The Midrand SAPS joined the members and the head of the station, Brigadier Tsotsotso and Colonel Magowa paid their respects to the family.
The memorial was exceptionally well attended, a testament to how great his impact was in the greater community.
He will be missed by all his colleagues and we thank him for his service.

Tips for crime prevention

If you are a pedestrian please be very careful of using your cellphone out in the open. There are cars driving around where the passenger jumps out and grabs the cellphone and they drive off. Be very aware when using your cellphone, even at shopping centres the same happens. Be aware, be vigilant, be practical.

When driving your car be aware of you surroundings, watch if you are followed. If you feel you are, take some unusual turns and if you are still being tailed drive to the nearest police station of petrol station as they have cameras.

Put your valuables in your boot when driving like laptops and handbags to avoid smash and grabs. Donโ€™t have a cellphone holder prominently displayed as thieves sometimes sn**ch these through open windows.

Make sure you car is locked before walking away by trying a handle as there are remote jammers that sometimes leave the door unlocked.

If you have a keyless entry car make sure to have a special carrier for the key that inhibits the signal transmitting so that it canโ€™t be cloned.

Get a vehicle tracker installed in your vehicle or bike as the recovery rate is very good.

With your premises try and have layers of security. If you are on a plot then have a secure fence, then electric fence, not just an electric fence, then beams like Roboguard around the house, then tamper switches on windows and doors. Make sure you have burglar bars on any windows that get left open.

If you have solar panels get tamper detectors on them as these are a hot commodity, make sure they are alarmed and send a signal to your response company.

If you are using an ATM be very aware of people standing close to you and rather eject your card and walk away than running the risk of your card being taken.

When shopping in supermarkets be aware of your handbag and cellphone as there are groups that jostle and distract and then steal phones and wallets. Keep your hand on your valuables and be aware when being jostled that you are being distracted in order to rob you without your awareness.

When at shopping centres ideally do not have high value watches, even if they are fakes as these are targeted by professional gangs who will follow you out of the centre and often rob you at gunpoint on the road somewhere. These incidents have often been deadly so please donโ€™t resist or fight back.

When out drinking never take a drink from strangers, or leave a drink unattended. Date r**e through drugging drinks is rife and needs to be avoided at all costs.

Be aware of confidence tricksters offering you specials inside stores where they say they have friends who work there and will get you special deals, give them your card and they will purchase for you.

Facebook Marketplace is a criminals playground. Donโ€™t pay upfront and especially if you havenโ€™t seen the product, especially cars. The same car has been sold numerous times to unsuspecting victims. The sellers will place unreasonable pressure on you to make a deposit or full payment as they claim to have another buyer who is going to pay now, pay immediately or lose out. If itโ€™s too good to be true walk away.
