SAEF VETERINARIAN COURSES

Calling all veterinarians wanting to become SAEF Accredited Veterinarians for future sanctioned SAEF events.

This extensive 2-day course will be presented by SAEF's Head Veterinarian, Dr Sheelagh Higgerty. There is no charge for the course.

Dates for the other provinces will be made available shortly.

Please take note that a Showjumping Judges Course for Learner & Provincial will be presented by FEI Level 3 Judge, Barbara Lovell on 12 & 13 October 2024 at the SAEF Training Centre in Kyalami.

There is no charge for the course and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL MEMBERS - PASSPORT CHECKS AT SHOWS

Veterinarians and Welfare Officers will be scheduled on a regular basis to attend equestrian events and it is imperative for you to ensure that all horses competing at an event MUST have their SAEF FEI Group IX passports with them at all times (physical passport, NOT photograph) for a spot check by these Welfare Officers and Veterinarians.

The SAEF encourages National Discipline Associations to ensure that all riders' passports comply with the SAEF Veterinary Regulations https://www.saef.org.za/documents/rules-regulations/ # as well as the SA General Rules and Regulations https://www.saef.org.za/documents/rules-regulations/ # .
All Equine Flu and African Horse Sickness vaccinations must be up to date as per the latest SAEF Vaccine Directive.

Please ensure that your horse/s have valid AHS1 and AHS 2 Vaccinations plus the necessary Flu Vaccination (including the Primary Vaccination) in its SAEF FEI Group IX passport, before entering a competition. All vaccinations need to be administered by an official Veterinarian.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NATIONAL RACING AUTHORITY PASSPORTS ARE NOT VALID FOR SAEF COMPETITIONS.

South Africa's Dr Wayne van Niekerk is currently competing in the FEI CIAO Driving event in Exloo, Netherlands, in the Horse Pair CAI3*-H2 class. Their dressage score was 59.77 and they are currently placed 11th in a string field that includes the current World Champion. Wayne was happy with the horses, especially since this was their first drive together. He sees great potential for this combination in the future. The marathon section is on later today. Good luck Wayne!

SAEF EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE

Are you interested in becoming an announcer, scribe, marshal or timekeeper at equestrian shows and earn a bit of extra money?

Our first SAEF Officials course will be held on 13 & 14 July 2024 at 29 Macintyre Road, Glenferness, Kyalami (SAEF Offices).

This is a 2-day course and will be subsidised by the SAEF. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The course is limited to 15 attendees only.
