Dynamite comes in small packages. Cheetah cubs are not only cute, but also fascinating creatures with some unique characteristics. They are born with a mantle of long, silver fur that helps them blend into their environment and offers protection by making them look like honey badgers. Moreover, these young cheetahs start developing their impressive sprinting abilities within weeks of birth. Tell us which cub, pup or little critter you would like more fun facts on. 🐆
Did you know nearly 50% of amphibian species, including the Table Mountain Ghost Frog (TMGF), are nearing extinction?
EWT scientists studied TMGF tadpoles' habitat on Table Mountain for three years. They found that high silt content and foot traffic harm tadpole growth, while invasive plants and weirs disrupt their environment.
To protect the TMGF, we recommend:
Building boardwalks to reduce sedimentation.
Removing invasive plants.
Strategically using weirs.
These actions will help preserve Table Mountain's delicate ecosystems. 🌍💚

Happy Father's Day to our heroes, leaders of our packs, and our protectors.

Some of the cutest little ones in the wild are definitely the Wild Dog pups. Spotting these little ones is an extremely rare event as only the alpha female dog carries a litter and only one litter is born per year. Each litter usually produces between 10 and 11 pups and they only weigh about 310 grams when born. Even more reason to protect these stunning animals.
Happy Global Wind Day.
Discover the power of wind energy and its potential to reshape our energy systems, reduce carbon emissions, and boost economic growth.
South Africa's 30+ wind farms are crucial in reducing loadshedding and transitioning from coal to greener alternatives.
At EWT, we're committed to balancing conservation with renewable energy and protecting birds and bats through our various programmes.

Drylands Conservation Programme team members Samantha and Handré recently conducted an insect diversity survey in the Langeberg area. After spending many hours of hiking between the rocky outcrops, they found multiple beetle species, along with some cockroaches, spiders, scorpions and reptiles. The highlight of the survey was a tiny unknown firefly species in the tribe Lampyrini. Even though it is a harsh time of the year for insects and other small taxa, much more were found than they expected. 🐜🪲🪳
Our Drylands Conservation Programme is on a mission to map out the distribution of dwarf tortoise species. We need your help! If you spot a dwarf tortoise, please report it to us at [email protected].

The EWT’s Soutpansberg Rangers spend extensive time in the field, working on everything from anti-poaching patrols, to infrastructure maintenance and even burning firebreaks and firefighting. We are extremely grateful to Jonsson Workwear for providing our team with critical clothing to keep them warm this winter, as well as the 100% cotton work suits to keep the team safe when working with fire. 🌲🔥
It’s Youth Month and time for all of us to go “aaaah cute” as we marvel at the amazing babies in the bush. 😍

On Wednesday, we celebrated World Environment Day, an annual event held on 5 June that unites millions of people worldwide in the mission to protect and restore our planet.
Since 1973, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has led this initiative, with more than 150 countries participating each year. This year, the event was hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, focusing on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.
Drylands are a crucial area of focus for this year’s theme.
On this World Environment Day, let's take a moment to appreciate the beauty of our natural world and commit to protecting it. Whether it's through planting trees, conserving water, or reducing our carbon footprint, every action counts. What will you do to make a difference? 🌿

🌍✨ Celebrating International Day for Biological Diversity – May 22, 2024!
Did you know that ¾ of the land-based environment and about 66% of the marine environment have been significantly altered by human actions. 1 million animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction.
The theme for 2024 is "Be Part of the Plan" - a call to action for all to support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
What can you do? Educate yourself, visit local museums, conservation areas, and support nature-based NGOs! 🌿
Turn your Friday into a Feel Good Friday by helping us save poisoned vultures. The EWT works closely with the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Hoedspruit to save these endangered birds.
