We are bidding a fond farewell to the MiTek 20/20 software, after many years of service.

The design package has been one of our most important tools since it was introduced in 1998, and at the time of introduction it was a huge step forward.

The software has now been superseded by exciting advancements in design software – our PAMIR with MiTek 3D software is even more flexible and user-friendly.

As we start to approach the end of the year, it’s time to factor seasonal shutdowns into your planning!

Here are some important dates to add to your diaries:

13th Dec: All MiTek operations will be closed for the day to enable employees to participate in our annual Staff Appreciation celebration.

14th Dec – 9th Jan: Midrand manufacturing facility closure for the annual builders’ shutdown.

19th Dec – 3rd Jan: M20 and Builders’ Products warehouse shutdown. Note that there will be a skeleton staff only operating when the facilities first reopen.

21st Dec – 3rd Jan: Midrand offices shutdown.

It’s been a busy year so far at MiTek South Africa, with a focus on rolling out our brand-new PAMIR design software.

We’ve introduced a new roof cover calculator; we defied the impossible – erecting a new cathedral roof as well as supporting our clients through the provision of training.

The N’Djamena Cathedral has an impressive roof, representing the single biggest use of steel in any MiTek South Africa project – a total of 96 tonnes of light gauge.

When working together, incredible things can happen, and the cathedral was formally opened in April 2023.

“Those of us on the project, we have enormous passion for what we do. This was our way of making a statement about what MiTek can do, and the kind of talent we have on board.”

Faced with a site with a wealth of cultural and religious significance, the N’Djamena Cathedral was a unique challenge. A new roof needed to be created, complimenting the other careful refurbishments that had taken place previously.

Many believed it couldn’t be done, so a new approach was needed. Using Ultra-Span, the weight of the roof has been split across 850 centres, with trusses clustered closely together, creating an impressive roof structure, renewing the building.
