This is Your reminder to pause and come back to your breath. When life feels overwhelming and as if you are being pulled in myriad of directions, finding a moment of stillness can feel impossible. It is in these moments where I encourage my clients to draw on practices which are โ€˜simpleโ€™ to apply and easy to engage with. Simple breathing techniques such as Box Breathing is a simple yet effective way to calm the Central Nervous system, to allow the body and mind to find the space to rest and digest.

My healing balm has always been nature. Itโ€™s cyclic and rhythmic nature aligns with my need to feel connected to something so much greater than myself. Nature is absolute beauty incarnate and I am always in awe of its magnificence and magic. ๐Ÿ’š

Yoga is so much more than the shapes we create on the mat. Yoga is an inward journey. It is a practice which invites us to become self-aware with accountability and compassion. Mostly however, it cultivates a space for us to practice presence. In a world with so much stimulus and screens fighting to grab our attention, the practice of Yoga moves us to mindful presence. To simply be.

There is one word that sums up 2023 for me and that is; Duality. This year has taught me how easily opposing experiences and emotions can co-exist. I went through the greatest pain of my life, an extraordinary transformation and I wish 2023 farewell with both humility and gratitude. I have learned invaluable lessons of duality and impermanence. I have a deep understanding that every moment in life is fleeting and that to live a life of wonder is to also accept that life is also a deeply painful experience. I have come to know that pain can so easily co-exist with joy. Hurt can be present with excitement. Sadness can weave its way into your incredible adventures. I have come to understand, in such a profound and beautiful way, that life is anything but a linear journey and that to exist in the black and white, the neat and orderly, the picture-perfect is an ideal that no one has/is currently living. Life is tragic and beautiful. Chaotic and wonderful. And it is messy. Oh is life so very messy. I throw resolutions to the wind and laugh at the very thought of limiting myself to a few ideals that seem so neat and so orderly. Instead, I set my intentions to live a life in awe and wonder and I say to 2024 bring it on, I am ready for this messy, chaotic and beautiful life I am so very privileged to live.

Monday night Yoga Strong class as we flowed through a sequence for Happy Hips and Hammies with the intention of letting go. We can choose to let go when we bring ourselves fully into the present moment. When we actively engage with the present, the temptation to consider the past or worry about the future dissipates. Our practice on our mat invites us to be present and mindful as there is nowhere else to be and nothing else to do other than to be fully present with our moment on the mat.

This moment right here is what I love most about teaching Yoga. It is the most important part of the class when we get to the end and we create a space to find stillness within ourselves. In Savasana, I always endeavor to guide my class to a place within themselves that is peaceful, calm and still. In that moment I can very literally see bodies, breath and minds relax completely. It is a magical moment and one that I am always honoured to be a part of and bear witness to.
