*PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA ANNOUNCES 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS DATE*

President Cyril Ramaphosa has in accordance with section 49(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, read with section 17 of the Electoral act of 1998, determined 29 May 2024, as the date for the 2024 General National and Provincial elections.

The President has also in line with section 17(2) of the Electoral act 73 of 1998, consulted with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on the election date. Furthermore, the President convened a meeting with all 9 Provincial Premiers and the IEC to discuss the state of readiness for the General elections.

The 2024 elections coincide with South Africa's celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy. Therefore, President Ramaphosa calls on all eligible voters to fully participate in this important and historic milestone of our democratic calendar.

“ Beyond the fulfilment of our constitutional obligation, these upcoming elections are also a celebration of our democratic journey and a determination of the future that we all desire. I call on all South Africans to exercise their democratic right to vote and for those who will be campaigning to do so peacefully, within the full observance of the law. We also urge unregistered voters to use the online registration platform to register”, said President Ramaphosa.

The proclamation to declare the date will be issued in due course.

Mayor Masango George Manyike called the Koreans Solar Company team led by Dr Kim to check progress of Moretele Local Municipality Solar Power Plant project that is expected to kick start soon this year. They were accompanied by technicians from China and South Africa as well as the Chinese telecommunications investors for solar plant project.

THOUSANDS OF TROUPE LOVERS ARE EXPECTED TO GRACE MAKAPANSTAD ANNUAL TROUPES FESTIVAL

It’s more than a community event. The annual MAKAPANSTAD troupes carnival festival is an event that gathers crowds from all walks of life.

20 troupes will participate in this year’s event.
The annual event will take place on the 26th of Dec 2023, first stop will be at the Makapanstad Royal Kraal at 10h00 with the performance to Kgosi Nchaupe lll and his tribal Kgotla, after they will proceed to Makapanstad Phomolong Sports ground ,where a big event will be staged.
This free entrance event boosts the local economy.

Cllr Baloyi loses battle against long illness

Hon. Cllr. Khazamula John Baloyi born on the 24 June 1962, passed away on the 13 December 2023 due to natural causes. Hon Baloyi served as a Ward 17 Councilor for Moretele Local Municipality,deployed by the African National Congress.

Hon Baloyi was elected as a shop steward for CCAWUSA affiliated under COSATU in 1986, He also served as Treasurer at COSATU Pretoria Region, and held a position of an ANC Branch Chairperson.

MORE THAN 2000 NEEDY FAMILIES RECEIVED FOOD PARCELS

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu led a Chinese embassy initiative to distribute food parcels to the needy families and also to announce village projects.

The village projects are aimed to alleviate poverty, to create and improve the economic cycle of rural areas.
"This period requires all of us to join hands to assist the most vulnerable members of the society in our country" said the minister. The first project will take place in kgomo Kgomo village of building a new clinic which will take place soon.

The marriage between China and South Africa will really assist in improving the lives of the people of South Africa.

MORETELE COMMUNICATION UNIT SCOOPED AN AWARD

The Mayor of Moretele Local Municipality Cllr Masango George Manyike congratulates the communication unit in the office of municipal manager Mr Sipho Ngwenya for scooping an award at SALGA 7th Annual National Communicators Forum. “The local government requires creativity and adaptability” he said. The award is the big achievement to the municipality because it shows commitment to the officials and councilors.

More than 200 municipalities in the country participated in various categories of media awards. The Moretele local municipality communication unit managed to win the game and the awards ceremony was held today at the ICC in Durban. This unit through all mammoth tasks, managed to scoop most profiled municipality media monitoring.

Government Forum provides a network, events and advice on governance issues from a public interest perspective.

The Office of the Chief Whip was established to create synergy and to maintain discipline among Councilors from various Political Parties. The Role of the Chief Whip of Council covers both the political and administrative domains of Council with emphasis on the political aspect.

Single Whip has ensured that relationships between stakeholders are constructive and focused on key issues that are aimed at improving the lives of the Moretele residents.

PREMIER MAAPE RESUMES HIS OFFICIAL DUTIES FOLLOWING SICK LEAVE- ACTING PREMIER NONO MALOYI

In June 2023 North West Premier Kaobitsa Bushy Maape took ill following a minor orthopedic surgery. He was subsequently advised by his medical team to take a rest while receiving medical attention.

Premier Maape has since been medically advised that he has sufficiently recovered to resume his duties as Premier with effect from the 13th of November 2023. His programme and engagement with stakeholders will be communicated in due course.

As Acting Premier I would like to take this opportunity to thank colleagues in the North West Executive Council and all stakeholders for their support and well wishes during Premier Maape's recovery. Ends.

The Speaker of Moretele Local Municipality Clr Freda Mapela accompanied by the ward councilors of ward 9 Clr Silas Motshegoa, Clr Mothusi Segone of ward 23 ,CDW,Municipal officials and ward committees continued with the ID and voter registration at Gamotla. The department of Home affairs issued 82 smart card IDs wherein 5 was rejected due to fingerprint challenge which the department will deal with.IEC registered all the 82 which 10 was the new registrations.On Thursday the program continues again at Gamotla.
