We embraced the spirit of Mandela Day by helping transform Lakehaven Secondary in Newlands East, Durban. Over 30 of us spray-painted inspiring Madiba quotes on the walls, donated around 200 books to the library, set up a volleyball court & two netball hoops, and put up three Mandela banners.

An on-site fruit inspection is always a-peeling! Our team recently visited a cold store in Cape Town as part of our commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality. Regular inspections like these ensure we only export the best quality, most flavourful fruit to our valued clients in over 55 countries. This consignment was headed for Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.

Rounded off the week by giving to a good cause. Members of our team gave the “gift of life” when the South African Blood Bank set up a donor station at our office as part of the Good Hood Community Drive.

Currently, our Business Development Manager, Gresham Sooknunan, and Key Account Manager, Niel Naidoo are in the Seychelles strengthening our partnerships there.

We kicked off our 35-day Workplace Wellness Challenge on 1 August. Fantastic to see our team focused on being healthier together – though the awesome prizes could have something to do with it too! We’re loving the neighbourhood walks and runs, and early morning, lunchtime, and after-work sessions in our gym. The challenge ends on 19 September.

Great teammates make for a great team! We timed out on Friday afternoon to celebrate our incredible IOEC family. Nothing like a fun get together to round off the week – and our financial year!

While we embrace the spirit of Nelson Mandela throughout the year, to commemorate , our team rallied together for the Nomanini Siyabanakekela (“taking care of them anytime”) creche in Botha’s Hill. Run by a husband-and-wife team, the creche cares for around 40 children under the age of 6, with virtually no funding. We collected toys, books, blankets, stationery, and food items, and painted the creche to provide a warm, comforting learning environment. Our heartfelt gratitude to The Robin Hood Foundation South Africa for putting us in touch with the creche and for assisting with the set-up.

We are honoured to have been part of the South African Embassy stand at the International Arts and Handicrafts Fair in Comoros over the weekend. There was an incredible buzz at the event, more so when President Azali Assoumani of Comoros (and African Union Chairperson), President William Ruto of Kenya, and Finance Minister of Comoros, Mzé Abdou Mohamed Chanfiou, dropped by. They were delighted to learn about South Africa’s leading FMCG brands and the country’s unique arts and crafts.

Our team has just wrapped up a four-day exhibition at the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) trade show in Casablanca, Morocco. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed introducing food professionals from across Sub-Saharan Africa to the extensive range of products that we export directly from leading manufacturers.

We partnered with The Mina Foundation last April to donate 100 menstrual cups to two schools in Verulam in KZN, South Africa. Schoolgirls were thrilled to learn about the product. The Foundation does exceptional work across the country, ensuring teenage girls don’t miss school because they can’t afford sanitary products. 1 in 10 girls stay home for up to a week each month. Our heartfelt gratitude to The Wellness Centre Trust for helping set up this significant initiative.

The Fundani Youth Development Centre in Durban empowers young people with in-demand skills and training, so they can find jobs or advance their careers. IOEC supports the Centre’s vision and its training courses on First Aid and Firefighting. The Centre is also home to the Khulani Place of Shelter for orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children.

For over 20 years, clients around the world have interacted with our FMCG Category Manager, Kerri Kruger. They’ve benefitted from her vast experience, professionalism, and willingness to always go the extra mile…

For 60 years, the Wilderness Leadership School (an NPO), has helped city slickers, adventure-seekers and budding conservationists experience the beauty of South Africa’s wild areas, to understand why we need to protect them. They hold training and guided trails to raise funds so they can continue to conserve these natural, untouched, wild spaces. IOEC has supported the School for decades, helping create a better planet together.
