It's amazing to see everyone come together to support sustainable living and give pre-loved clothes a second chance. 💚 Selling second-hand clothes has also proven to be a surprisingly great way for kids to earn some pocket money: one of our little ones is saving up for a dog and cleverly marked her outgrown clothes to boost sales. Annabel shares her insights on fast fashion and reflects on her upcycling project from last year, which didn't quite go as planned! She learned that upcycling clothes can sometimes turn into a bit of a disaster, but thrifting offers a much simpler and more effective way to be sustainable. We mourn the loss of an inspiring woman and celebrate her life with gratitude. Celri loved the ocean. Today our school bids farewell to this beautiful, dynamic soul by decorating the windows with images of the ocean and sea creatures. Ons het die voorreg gehad om terug te stap in die tyd by Soetmelksvlei, plaaslewe pragtig bewaar deur Babylonstoren. Ons leerders het ’n kykie gekry in ’n tydkapsule van ’n lewe voor skerms en plastiek—’n eenvoudige, volhoubare manier van leef. We had the privilege of stepping back in time at Soetmelksvlei, farmlife beautifully preserved by Babylonstoren. Our 4-5-year-olds are interested in drawing and art, so we’ve designed stations around their interests. Sore feet...HAPPY HEARTS 👣 Our HIGH SCHOOL learners went on their first WAYFINDER course. They spent 2 days hiking in our beautiful Cape Point National Park. They hiked 34kms over 2 days; 14km day one and 20km day two This aim of this experience was to INSPIRE these youngsters; to find there inner STRENGTH and perserverence, as well as to deepen their connection to nature and each other. "What a beautiful memories we made! These kids have all grown so much through this experience - really one for the books. I'm so proud of them..." THE BIG REVEAL of our BRAND NEW Senior School buildings... If we are to prepare today's youngsters for the careers on the future, then their learning environments need to be designed to empower them, as they journey along their path of LEARNING and SELF-DISCOVERY. The three learning 'pods' that make up our Senior School are positioned around a landscaped playground, and connected by a oversailing pergola, that throws pathway of thick shade between the buildings. The layout and materiality of each 'pod' draws inspiration from BIOPHILIC DESIGN principles, increasing a child's connectivity to the natural environment, by directly and indirectly using natural elements when creating space and place. You will notice the presence of curved walls, earthy colours, warm timbers, raw tree stumps, cut stone, naturally weathered boulders, scattered bark chips, bright sun rays, carefully considered detailing and enormous windows that frame the views of the valley beyond. This cluster of buildings is firmly rooted in our Green School soil. There is a feeling of calm, of quiet and of peace, giving our youngsters the sense of being held and feeling secure.
