If the allegations are true about Tefelo Dikole as the assailant of Kutlwano Garesape, a six-year old boy who was murdered trying to protect his mother then this is an indication of a society in the state of decay. As society we must be disturbed by such tragic incidents and acts of terror. The severity and the magnitude of damage caused by such to the families and andividuals affected ispainful to imagione.

That being said our hearts and prayers goes out Kutlwano's family.

FOCUS ON POLITICS:
"Ramphele highlights the plight of the youth"

Speaking to Miriam Mannak for Leadership, Dr Mamphela Ramphele says that “It is the plight of young people that was a contributing driver behind my decision to establish Agang...” She says that the young people who read her latest book “Conversations With My Sons and Daughters” have asked her personally to be the bridge between the older generation who fought for freedom and the generation that was after 1994.

“We want to give them [young people] tangible opportunities and the tools that will enable them to assert their rights and regain their dignity. We want to make young people aware that their anger and frustration do not have to be turned into alcohol and drug abuse, and violent behaviour, but that these emotions could be channelled in a positive direction”

As one of the solution to youth unemployment problems she has this to say: “To make things happen Agang will connect with young professionals to build a bridge between the party and young people. We want young professionals to connect us to youngsters at a level they understand, something that I can’t do as an older person” says Mamphele.

"Motivation and inspiration energise people, not by pushing them in the right direction as control mechanisms do, but by satisfying basic human needs for achievement, a sense of belonging, recognition, self-esteem, a feeling of control over one's life, and the ability to live up to one's ideals".

At the dawn of the youth month period perhaps these are some of the issues that needs to be at the forefront of the debates about youth leadership. In this foreword in Leadership Magazine (March 2013) Kekeletso Khena articulates the type of a leader we should all aspire to and engage upon in the debates on youth leadership.

"...I believe there is a need to vary the images we associate with leadership. Now more than ever, we need leaders whose desire is not to lead, but to serve.....Imagine a world where leaders are not 'first citizens' - leaders who are inspired by the desire to serve rather than showcasing their blinding brilliance, dominance and power..."

There is a may be a heated debate about who liberated South Africa these days, but no revisionist work shall blind us to the absolute privilege that comes with being free to pursue whatever dreams we deem exciting. Just as we are free from racial oppression, we should not allow our imagination to be ever held back by illegitimate authorities. A sobering Freedom Day to you all fellow compatriots!

Is house music the neo-soul of the millennium?
And why is South Africa such a favoured market for international dace/house artists?
A random sample of some of the local and international artists, such as Ralph Gum, Vikter Duplaix, Donald, LiquiDeep, Busi, Maletloka, KayBee, Mr V, Black Coffee, Zakes Bantwini, Osunlade , to name but a few, reveals a trend of musicians who enter the industry to produce purely dance/house singles or full albums. Some have started in other genres have opted for the dance/house type of music as the market for this genre of music continues to grow and, influence global trends and lifestyle and generate even more revenue that traditional music genres.
Over and above that it seem that the South African market is highly favoured by international dance/house artists. It is the here that most of sales for house/dance music are the highest globally and South Africa has, over the years become very influential in the evolution of house music internationally.
Is this genre of music taking over all other music genres?
Why is South Africa such a favoured market for this genre of music?
