A look at another one of our ISUZU IRONMAN South Africa African Championship Legends. Introducing Wane Rossouw.

"No South African has ever asked whether you’ve done a sprint triathlon. It’s always, have you done an IRONMAN? After what seems like a lifetime in the sport having started at school some 40 years ago I realize I've survived this race 19 times, and that my 20th event will coincide with my 40th year of doing triathlon. How awesome! I have to be there.

Encouraged at a young age I have truly enjoyed what I have achieved and how I’ve tried to marry and fine tune my 3 favorite disciplines. Over the many years I have met the most incredible, passionate, determined people who have had a positive impact on me. I have learnt so much about myself and am in awe of what can be achieved by a mere mortal with a goal. The desire to better myself, push my limits and buy yet another pair of shoes is why I keep coming back for more.

Each discipline has its own unique challenges, and just when I think I've mastered one, the next one slaps me in the face. The swim is a constant battle against currents, waves, and my own sanity, but despite the challenging conditions each year, I love the swim discipline.

The bike leg is a never-ending roller coaster of zones, hills, winds, and prayers that there are no mechanical issues. The new route is one of my favorites, and I'm fired up to PB (again, I say this every year) and another reason I'm returning for another dig at it.

And then there's the run... oh, the run. I get to do my signature outfit change - because why not?! I've had friends think they saw me, only to do a double take and wonder... What is he wearing now?!

But in all seriousness, it's the support of my husband, the staff, and everyone on the day that keeps me going and coming back for more. From the volunteers to the spectators along the way, the day is a truly humbling experience. So, if you're ready to lose your mind, find your limits, and have a blast doing it in one of the most beautiful host cities, join me for another year of IRONMAN antics in Nelson Mandela Bay."
