To all my clients,
I would just like to take a minute to thank each and everyone of you for supporting me as an Equine Muscle Therapist and allowing me the honour of working on your amazing horses. Its has been a pleasure and a priviledge! Although it is the hardest thing saying goodbye I know that all of you and your horses will be well looked after! My mentor Beth Shaw has gladly taking over from me in Port Elizabeth with her wonderful assistants Nadia and Maryna. They will be arriving on 6th Novemeber to continue with treatments. This videos demonstrates the Superficial Pectoral muscle going into a slight spasm and fibrillation.
SPASM- A involuntary contraction of the muscle.
FIBRILLATION- A muscular twitching involving individual muscle fibers acting without coordination.
Superficial Pectoral (descending):
Origin: Manubrium(top of sternum/ breast bone)
Insertion: Cranial(closet to the head) Humerus.
Transverse Pectoral:
-Lies deep to superficial pectoral
-Origin: Bottom of cranial sternum
- Insertion: Cranial Humerus
Functions:
-Protracts(extends) the Forelimb.
-Adductor(bring towards body) of the forelimb.
-Provides Elasticity to the stride.
-Crucial to self-carriage.

Ryan Dell doing Hot Shoeing on my horse Magic. I found it very interesting and wanted to share it with everyone! Speaking to Ryan about Hot Shoeing, what it is and why it is done he had the following to say;
" It's a simple modification to a bought shoe its called a French Roll or -as same farriers call it- "Salad Bowling" the shoe. What we do is forge the inside web of the shoe downward so it touches the barring surface/ground 1st this allows for the horse to break over in any direction he pleases, it also brings the break over further back. By using the shoe you are relieving most ligaments and tendons under load. That is the basic concept of the shoe. The hot shoeing is there for me to be able to shape the shoe and do the modification and to get the best fit possible. It also helps with sealing the hoof from the bottom and getting rid of excess moisture in the hoof."
