Maintenance person - Vacancy available at a well established holiday resort near Brits North West for a maintenance person.

The ideal candidate can be a single man or married (possible employment for spouse)

General maintenance duties includes but not limited to :

Basic electrical
Basic plumbing
Fencing
Road maintenance
Swimming pool pump maintenance and repairs

Applicants must have/be:

-Relevant general maintenance experience, with a proven track record.
-Valid drivers license.
-own transport
-Willing to relocate
-Willing to work weekends, holidays and overtime.

We are now approaching the festive season, it is the time to be joyous and cheerful, but for most HR Professionals the time that leads up to year end is more of a "Silly Season". Employees are tired, it's been a long year and there is an entire year's pressure built up toward the last Quarter. Discipline reduces, grievances are files, employees are dismissed at the worst possible time due to misconduct.

What can we as HR professionals do to educate employees and employers to manage their behaviour and frustrations?

Let's talk Discipline!

If all of our employees are adults, why is it that we sometimes have to discipline them, turning the work relationship into an parent child relationship?

Well the answer is the same, it is like a parent chuld relationship. If you care for your employees, you need to point out their misbehavior to them, guide them and warn them that misconduct will ultimately carry severe consequences. As with your child, you need to grow them, guide them and turn them into their best selves.

Discipline is a rehabilitation process, allow your employees the opportunity to correct.

How does HR contribute to the bottomline?

HR in many companies are preceived as a cost centre or grudge purchase if you will. This could very well be the case too.

If HR is managed reactively, case to case, matter to matter and incident by incident, HR becomes nothing more than an insurance policy.

We should never lose sight of what HR stands for, Human Resources. All businesses was born from an idea to supply a product or service that satisfies a need. To acheive the goals of the business, specific skills are required and these skills lies within people. People are the main contributor to any successful business and these people are called Human Resources.

Investing in your Human Resources does not mean training, mentorships, development and promotions only. Although these areas are important to focus on there are other factors to consider.

Working environment: Employees tend to excel in environments where they are allowed an opinion and can participate in contributing to the goals of the company without fear if judgement or rejection. By supressing employees we take away their creativity, their drive to acheive and their willingness to go beyond what is expected of them.

Create a workspace where employees are comfortable to do their best without wondering if it is good enough. This will create loyalty, lower staff turnover and enhance their productivity, which impacts the bottomline.
