FIVE SUSPECTS APPEARED IN COURT FOR AKA AND TIBZ MURDERS
In a significant development following the tragic murders of renowned artist AKA (Kiernan Forbes) and chef Tebello Motsoane, five out of seven suspects made their appearance before the Durban Magistrates' Court.
The suspects, linked to the chilling killings that shocked South Africa, were apprehended during the week prior to their court appearance.
Addressing the media outside the court, AKA's father, Tony Forbes, expressed cautious optimism regarding the progress of the investigation. "I'm cautiously optimistic, with the suspect in custody," Forbes stated.
He emphasized the importance of this initial step, stating, "it's really the start to get closer to the truth to find out who is really behind all of this, but it is the important step that we have to through. We are still only at the bottom of the pyramid."
The suspects identified as Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi (30), Lindani Zenzele Ndimande (35), Siyanda Eddie Myeza (21), Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni (36), and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande (29), face charges including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and five counts of attempted murder.
Two other suspects, Lindokuhle Ndimande (29) and his brother Siyabonga Ndimande (28), remain in eSwatini after their arrest. The state has not provided a timeline for their extradition to South Africa.
The court remanded the case until March 6 for a bail hearing, with the suspects to remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.

FNB STADIUM UNAVAILABLE FOR SUNDOWNS' CAF CLASH AGAINST TP MAZEMBE
Mamelodi Sundowns' quest for a suitable venue for their upcoming CAF Champions League encounter against TP Mazembe faces another setback as the FNB Stadium, initially considered as an alternative, remains inaccessible. The club's initial request to utilize Loftus Versfeld Stadium was thwarted due to prior commitments, compelling them to explore other options.
Despite speculation surrounding the iconic FNB Stadium, recent developments reveal its unavailability, casting uncertainty over Sundowns' home ground for the crucial fixture. Reports confirm that no agreement was reached with Stadium Management, leaving the club in a precarious position.
The scheduling intricacies of the stadium, hosting three games within a mere seven days, pose logistical challenges for Sundowns. With Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows, Golden Arrows, and Orlando Pirates set to grace the venue in quick succession, accommodating Sundowns' clash becomes impractical.
Lucas Moripe Stadium emerges as a potential fallback option, albeit with its own set of complications. CAF's stringent standards previously flagged the venue's suitability, raising doubts about its adequacy for hosting prestigious continental fixtures.
Sundowns find themselves navigating a labyrinth of logistical hurdles as they strive to secure a suitable venue compliant with CAF regulations. The looming fixture against TP Mazembe underscores the urgency for a resolution, as the club seeks to maintain its competitive edge amidst formidable opposition. With time ticking, Sundowns and stakeholders remain in a race against the clock to finalize arrangements and ensure a seamless ex*****on of the upcoming encounter.

Greater Tzaneen Municipality Holds Outreach & GBVF Campaign at Ntwanano Village
In a proactive move against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), the Greater Tzaneen Municipality organized a community outreach event at Ntwanano Village, Nazareth Church, on Tuesday. The campaign aimed to enlighten the community about reporting channels available to them regarding cases of GBVF.
Chancellor Maggy Makwala, who spearheaded the campaign, emphasized its significance in light of the increasing cases of GBV within communities. "This is an important campaign because we are witnessing many cases of GBV in our communities; hence, as Greater Tzaneen, we saw the need to organize a campaign of this nature to educate our people," remarked Chancellor Makwala.
One of the pivotal aspects addressed during the event was the reluctance to report cases, often stemming from the perpetrator's role as the breadwinner. The campaign aimed to initiate dialogues, especially among women, to encourage reporting and end the culture of silence surrounding GBVF incidents.
Nkhensani Hlekani from the Commission of Gender Equality (CGE) underscored the importance of accessibility to information, particularly in rural areas. "This will benefit the community because most people in rural areas have difficulty accessing information. When we visit such communities, we empower them," said Hlekani.
Malwandla Ngobeni from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) shed light on the legal avenues available to victims of sexual offenses and femicide. Ngobeni emphasized the importance of persistence in seeking justice, encouraging individuals to follow up with authorities and seek assistance from organizations like the CGE when faced with challenges in legal proceedings.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of empowerment within the community, as attendees were equipped with knowledge about their rights and avenues for seeking justice in cases of GBVF.
Accident Cleared: R71-Magoebaskloof Road Reopens After Truck Overturns
Staff Writer
After a temporary closure due to a truck overturning and spilling oil and diesel, the R71-Magoebaskloof road has been reopened for traffic, announced the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety. Commuters are urged to exercise caution while driving through the area.
The incident occurred when a truck, reportedly bound for Musina with heavy machinery, veered off course onto the R71 road. The driver, believed to be an elderly man from Zimbabwe, allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and spill its contents onto the road. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Authorities promptly responded to the scene, working diligently to clear the road and ensure the safety of commuters. Cleanup crews worked tirelessly to remove spilled oil and diesel, mitigating the risk of environmental damage and restoring the road to its operational state.
According to statements from the attending officer, the driver's unfamiliarity with the R71 road likely contributed to the accident. It was purportedly the driver's first time navigating this route, leading to confusion and eventual loss of control.
Residents and travelers can proceed with caution, ensuring a safe journey along the scenic R71-Magoebaskloof route.

LIMPOPO WITNESSES DECLINE IN ROAD FATALITIES, YET PEDESTRIAN DEATHS PERSISTS
Limpopo's road safety landscape, marked by a welcome 8.4% decline in road fatalities during the 2023/24 festive season, has revealed a stark reality: pedestrian deaths persist as a troubling trend. MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, in her recent statement, expressed both relief and concern regarding the state of road safety in the province.
The decrease in overall road fatalities, lauded by MEC Radzilani, can be attributed to concerted efforts from law enforcement, road users, and various social partners. However, the shadows of tragedy loom large, particularly for the 10 innocent children whose lives were abruptly cut short in road accidents.
Despite the comprehensive intergovernmental approach deployed by the government, pedestrian fatalities have surged, with a notable 62 accidents involving pedestrians, 30 of which were hit-and-runs. These incidents, often linked to intoxicated pedestrians leaving taverns and shebeens, reflect a disturbing trend of reckless behavior on the roads.
MEC Radzilani has called upon the public to aid law enforcement in apprehending motorists involved in hit-and-run incidents, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and pedestrian visibility, especially during the night.
Sekhukhune District emerges as a focal point for intensified road safety efforts, bearing the weight of 21 pedestrian fatalities. The underlying causes of these accidents predominantly stem from human behavior, ranging from reckless driving to inadequate vehicle roadworthiness.
Amidst these challenges, MEC Radzilani commends the unwavering dedication of traffic officers, even in the face of tragedy, exemplified by the loss of Provincial Inspector Kedibone Railo. As condolences extend to Railo's family and others affected by road accidents.
