UNLEASHED: fEMININE RAGE
Curatorial Statement:
This exhibition explores the nuanced and frequently repressed feeling of feminine rage. It is a compelling and thought-provoking exhibition. Through artistic expression, this show seeks to question established conventions, spark thought-provoking discussions, and honour the fortitude and resiliency of women and other genders. For women’s month artists explore the best way to express their own experience of feminine rage. Paintings, drawing, sculpture or digital art are viewed to showcase the inner fire we feel for our ignored feminine souls. This is a highlight individual tales of empowerment, adversity, resiliency, and metamorphosis via artwork that communicates personal experiences of feminine fury. This exhibition is not limited to women only. All genders are welcome here.

The titles of her three miniature works by Judy Woodborne reference the concept of Solipsism, defined as follows:
Solipsism (/'solipsizam/ SOLL-ip-siz-am; from Latin solus 'alone', and ipse 'self') is the philosophical idea that only one's mind is certain to exist. As an epistemological stance, solipsism posits that knowledge of anything beyond one's own mind is uncertain; the external world and other minds may not exist outside the mind.
These three solipsistic bubbles represent different states of mind or being, encapsulating a beautiful mind navigating a world of ever-changing contrasts, darkness, and challenging times.
We currently have two incredible exhibitions on display at our gallery - one on the first floor and another on the second floor. This is a must-visit experience for all art enthusiasts!

Curatorial Statement.
Mere words cannot adequately describe the weight and excitement of having to make a life-changing decision. We live in a world where we constantly must make decisions on things we want or things we need to do. This is a point in time where a significant change may occur that can determine and impact one’s future.
Crossroads refers to the intersection of different roads where a traveller must choose a direction in which to take. In Setswana, one of the common reference of crossroads is tsila tse pedi (two roads). This exhibition is an invitation to ponder upon the state of being at a crossing. Robert Frost has delt with this dilemma of being at a crossroad; evident in his poem “The road not taken”. Tracy chapman sang “crossroads” to us, and we heard all that could go right and wrong and all those that can influence us when trying to decide while on a journey. We travel alone, but we are connected to other people and when we experience these crucial moments, those around us may also feel the impact. This exhibition is a collection of respective stories and experiences that speaks to the state of being at a crossroad. Each artist is pulling the weight from different directions of cultural and spiritual influences, change and body dysmorphia, believe systems and traditional paths, economic pressures and environmental accountability, and the impact of death and loss. When we are faced with sharp vicissitudes that compels us to make choices, what are the emotions, challenges, anxieties, and conversations that we carry within our bodies? There is a moment in that journey where we wished we could split ourselves in two or more pieces to accommodate that desire to take all pathways.

Nellien Brewer - Pigeon - Pretoria (Job 38-42 +1)
A pigeon meticulously crafted from written words is one of the many mesmerizing works by Brewer in the exhibition. Each feather, each detail, is painstakingly composed of letters, forming a cohesive whole that captures the essence of the bird and the associations the artist holds with this creature. The pigeon, a symbol of urban life, as well as spirituality, is rendered here as a reminder to lift our gaze from screens and observe the world around us. Its form encourages viewers to pause, reflect, and perhaps reconsider the constant pull of technology. Through this poignant piece, the artist challenges us to embrace moments of connection through our associations to symbols and words that mean so much more than mere communication on any platform.
Whisper of Hearts: An Ode to Love in Paper
Step back in time and rediscover the timeless language of love with my latest artworks for "Ode to Love" at The Viewing Room Art Gallery ! ✨
Forget Hallmark and supermarket cards - these miniature masterpieces are crafted in the spirit of the 18th century, when hand-cut designs and heartfelt messages conveyed emotions in a more personal and meaningful way.
Each A5 card features my signature hand-cut heart, layered with intricate details:
❤️ A hidden heart drawing revealed only on the back.
❤️ A delicate heart-shaped inscription penned in my own hand.
❤️ Layers stitched together with red embroidery, reminiscent of a miniature book.
❤️ And a subtle touch of needlework, adding depth and texture.
These unique creations are more than just cards - they're miniature expressions of love, waiting to be discovered and cherished.

Don't miss this exhibition.
Affordable art for those discerning romantics that think out-of'-box when it comes to gifting for that special partner
The idea behind an Ode to Love is to go back to a time when a declaration of love wasn’t bought off a supermarket shelf wrapped in shiny paper and looking like 1000’s of other declarations. And while many of us will keep these cards as nostalgic keepsakes, the flowers die soon and well…as pretty as heart-shaped chocolates are…they get devoured rather quickly.
