Milk Duds are a delightful candy treat made with chocolate and caramel. Let me give you a brief history and description of these sweet morsels:
History: Milk Duds were created in Chicago in 1928 by Edwin Holloway of F. Hoffman & Co. Holloway faced a challenge in achieving the perfect spherical shape for these candies, so he humorously called them “duds.” And that’s how the name “Milk Duds” came to be! 😄
Ingredients: Milk Duds consist of an irregularly shaped caramel disk coated with a layer of confectionery chocolate made from cocoa and vegetable oil. The original name referred to the initial milk ingredient and the “duds” from the failed attempts at achieving a round shape. Over the years, the recipe has evolved, but the delightful combination of chewy caramel and chocolate remains the same.

The first candy in Mexico was alegrías. It served as an offering to venerate the gods, making it an ancestral sweet. According to a spooky story, during that time, amaranth was mixed with the blood of sacrificed people, along with a bit of mead and honey. However, as time passed, the blood was replaced with raisins, pepitas (pumpkin seeds), and piloncillo (unrefined whole sugar cane). Quite a fascinating origin, isn’t it? 🍬🇲🇽
Additionally, it’s worth noting that chocolate also has its roots in Mexico. The Aztec people believed that the cacao plant was a gift from the tree of life, given to them by the god Quetzalcoatl. They used cacao beans as currency and made a drink out of them, using spices instead of sugar. Mexican chocolate still contains a variety of spices and is often used as an ingredient in various dishes. So, next time you enjoy a piece of Mexican candy, remember the rich history behind it! 😊

Jelly beans, the small, colorful candies with a hard shell and a gummy interior, have been delighting sweet teeth for generations. Originally a hybrid of Turkish delights and Jordan almonds, these tiny treats have a storied history that spans continents and centuries. While their precise origin remains somewhat mysterious, jelly beans have secured their place as a confectionery staple, particularly in the United States where they became closely associated with Easter celebrations in the 1930s.

The history of Sour Punch Straws dates back to the 1990s, when they were first introduced to the candy market. Created by Noah Nawaz, the original recipe for Sour Punch candy was a hit with consumers, who loved the sour, sugary taste. The candy was initially sold in basic flavors, including strawberry, apple, and grape, which are still popular today. Over the years, the brand has expanded to include a variety of other flavors and forms, including bites, twists, and ropes.

In 1948 W***y Mederer founded W***y Mederer KG, a company producing pasta in Fürth, Germany. When sugar rationing regulations were lifted the company changed production from pasta to confectionery.
The company grew in the 1950s and 1960s, widening the product range and rising to 150 staff. Candies were sold under the Wilmed brand, a portmanteau of W***y Mederer. Sales offices in Munich and Stuttgart were opened. In 1975 the company registered the 'Trolli' brand name that became the trading name for the company in 2012.

You shouldn’t deny hungry, increasingly anxious airplane passengers their tiny sources of delight. That’s a lesson United Airlines is learning slowly but surely. In January 2019, the airline earned kudos when it announced it was reinstating Stroopwafels to the in-flight snack offerings. But in February of 2020, United incurred online wrath after it pulled a different popular treat: Biscoff cookies. The Biscoff removal didn't last long. Just two days after an Eater editor complained, “You Can Take My Leg Room, But You Can Never Have My Biscoffs,” the airline tweeted that Biscoffs would return later this spring, following a brief run of Oreo Thins in their place. The term gobstopper derives from "gob", which is slang in the United Kingdom and Ireland for mouth. The sweet was a favourite among British schoolboys in the first half of the twentieth century—author Roald Dahl, who wrote about a jar of gobstoppers featuring in the prank he played in his local sweet shop in 1924, also referred to them in his fictional Everlasting Gobstopper which was featured in his 1964 children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
