In a three-part MasterClass hosted on the 09th of October, the last two sessions were focused on Work-place readiness. This session was facilitated by a talent acquisition specialist and a registered psychometrist.

The topics taught are broad but range from interview preparation, CV compilation, cultural awareness, and personal branding to name but a few.

The learners were challenged to compile a CV for 5 years from now. This provoked some strategic thinking about their career progression and what they would like to achieve.

Other gaming activities were employed to show a practical example of how interviewees could be assessed during an assessment process.

In a three-part MasterClass hosted on the 09th of October, the second session was on Financial Education.

In partnership with Old Mutual South Africa , the On The Money Financial Education Programme team shared with us the Big 5 secrets of money management.

At a high level, the main topics focused on include:
- Savings,
- Setting financial goals.
- Budgeting,
- Debt management,
- Wealth creation
- Protection planning, and
- Estate planning.

Key take aways for some of our learners include the importance of opening a bank account, budgeting and savings some of their pocket money. The learners have become more aware of how current poor debt management can be to their detriment in future and how to best manage credit.

1. In a three part MasterClass hosted on the 09th of October, the day was kicked off with a sensitive but yet much needed topic, Mental Wellbeing.

What was covered in the wellbeing masterclass:

The wellbeing masterclass focused on stress, anxiety and panic, situating these within a broader framework of wellbeing. Particular attention was given to managing exam stress and learners were equipped with skills to help them to avoid procrastination and take a proactive approach to their academic achievements. The skills taught will equip the learners to handle scholastic and other challenges, but are transferable to the workplace and other future scenarios.

The getsettrust together with Fluxmans hosted a for our learners.

The day was spent educating learners about the legal fraternity as well as the various occupations within the firm, from the role of the CEO, to Marketing, Training, Business Rescue & Insolvency, commercial, IP and Property to name but a few.

We are grateful to Fluxmans for this partnership and sharing their wealth of knowledge with us.

We are very excited about this partnership and we truly believe that our learners will extract a lot of value from this Company Tour.

On 28 August 2021, we hosted our very first MasterClass/ Workshop for our grade 10 and 11 learners.

The focus of this MasterClass was on Learning skills and during the sessions the learners were taught about Time management, Memory Mnemonics, Study Techniques as well as Exam Techniques.

STUDENT FEEDBACK
Some general sentiments from the students are that they enjoyed the workshops and would love to be exposed to more of the study skills seminars in the future. Prior to the sessions they had expressed that they were struggling with managing their time and getting all of their work done on time. From the comments received on the feedback forms, they found the workshops to be very helpful. The highlight was figuring out how to continue participating in extra-mural activities, hobbies, socializing time and family time without compromising on the amount of time and effort that they put into studying and improving their marks.

The memory and mnemonics workshop was a really fun activity for the students. Most of the students were delightfully surprised to learn the ways in which they can make academic content interesting.

We would like to thank our partners, facilitators and volunteers for making the day possible and more so, a successful one.

One of our Trustees, Vincent Mohau Motholo, has been appointed as the incoming Executive Director: Finance (CFO), for the University of Cape Town (UCT).
