📌📌Mentee Application Form for the 2024 SAC-IAWJ Gauteng Region Mentorship Programme for final year law students💥

It is with great anticipation and pleasure that we announce the opening of the mentee applications for the 2024 South African Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges (SAC-IAWJ) Gauteng Region Student Mentorship Programme.

All prospective Mentee applicants should please note the following when applying for placement in the Mentorship Programme:

1. The invitation to apply to participate in the 2024 South African Chapter of the International Association of
Women Judges (SAC-IAWJ) Student Mentorship Programme is extended to students completing their final
year studies of the Baccalaureus Legum (LLB) Degree during 2024 from the following universities:
a) The University of South Africa
b) The University of Johannesburg
c) The University of Pretoria
d) The University of the Witwatersrand.

2. The outcomes of the student mentorship programme entails amongst other things, the Mentee attending virtual presentations and
a minimum of 10 in person contact sessions with the student's allocated mentor. Virtual sessions between a mentor and mentee will count as a contact session.

3. The Mentorship Programme is not an internship and in no way should create the expectation of employment with Mentor. There is no remuneration that will be offered by Mentors as the Mentorship Programme is designed with the purpose of transferring legal skills between the Mentor and the Mentee.

4. All data and traveling expenses associated with the Mentorship Programme are for the applicant/ student’s own account and cost.

5. Successful student Mentees will be required to attend compulsory Mentorship Programme webinars/workshops which will take place either during the week in the evening or on Saturdays.

6. Applicant's do not have to attach a Curriculum Vitae.

7. The Applicant must be registered as a final year LLB student and must please attach proof of their 2024 university registration.

8. No late applications will be considered.

7. The closing date for applications is 15 March 2024.

8. Kindly note that If you do not receive a response from SAC-IAWJ Gauteng region Mentorship Programme by Friday, 12th April 2024 that your application has been unsuccessful.

9. All successful Applicant's are to attend the compulsory induction/ orientation which will be held on 13 April 2024. Kindly diarise the date. Details will follow in due course

10. The Mentorship Programme will end with a Graduation Ceremony which will be held on 30 November 2024 and all successful graduates of the programme are expected to attend the graduation ceremony. Kindly diarise the date. Details will follow in due course.

Student Debate & Indaba is an Engaged Scholarship programme of The University of South Africa (UNISA), administered by the College of Law through the UNISA Law Clinic. The purpose of this program is to enhance and refine the research, oratory and legal writing skills of first and second year LLB students. This is done through the implementation of a debate and seminar series where the students are required to research a set topic, formulate an opinion and deliver presentations to an audience.

Student debate/Indaba is a great opportunity for students to strengthen their ability to think critically about a topic and build robust, persuasive arguments. It furthers allows the students an opportunity to meet and work with their fellow students.

As participants, students are trained on house manners and etiquette. They are further trained on using appropriate language and ensuring that they address opponents, judges and audience in an appropriate manner during a debate. These are all crucial skills that every lawyer must possess.
