Criminals are using what's called a replay or amplification attack, which uses your wireless key to gain effortless entry and to start the car.
This is a two criminal job, one follows you into the shops and stands nearby you, his device picks up your wireless key signal, and boosts it back to criminal number 2, who can open your car with his transmitter, jump in and start the car.
A signal jammer is then used to bypass the tracker installed and the getaway happens in under a minute.
There is a few options to prevent this like carrying the key in a RFID blocking wallet, this low tech solution will help.
In the last few weeks a solution has been developed that will reassign the rolls how the wireless key works, which will prevent replay attacks from happening.
Should your key signal be picked up, it will not open the car.
This is a solution to the security modification which includes the following.
- The driver's door lock (which opens with a screwdriver) is modified and disabled, covered up with a false plate and can't be forced open anymore with a screwdriver.
- The emergency Bonnet system is installed and replaces the driver's door lock, should the car battery die the system will allow for access into the engine bay, once you have jumpers on the battery the car will unlock with the remote key. This system also triggers the alarm unit should it ever be used.
Facelift Models also require
- The alarm unit that is cut out, is moved into a new space in the engine bay and the cable is also moved so they cant come into the tyre arch and cut that unit out.
- The diagnostic port is disabled to prevent unauthorized access to the ECU/BCM. (This port can also be re-enabled by ford on a service.
- Wireless key Models also have an update to prevent criminals from boosting the signal back to the car (Replay Attacks).
