The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has a mandate to achieve mastery of technological change in South Africa’s economy and society. In the process of achieving the mandate, the DST identified Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies (HFCT) as a “frontier science and technology” platform that would allow proactive innovation and knowledge generation to benefit from South Africa’s natural reso
Director for HySA systems competence center, Dr Sivakumar Pasupathi, has 20 years experience in hydrogen and fuel cell technology covering from component development up to system integration. To attend his talk and visit the exhibitions, follow this link https://bit.ly/2Vpf7Hy
The main objective with HySA Systems is to (i) develop HFC systems and prototypes, (ii) perform technology validation and system integration in three key HySA programmes. HySA Systems is an industry, technology and prototype development oriented Competence Centre, which has demonstrated on many occasions its ability to develop, build, commission and validate energy systems.
The main objectives of the HySA Catalysis are to (i) commercial establish SA as major global exporter of catalysts and fuel cell components (ii) develop fuel cell supply chain in South Africa with local manufacturing partners (iii) Internationally recognized fuel cell and hydrogen research institute (iv) Human capital development - knowledge pool of South African engineers and scientists for the fuel cell industry. HySA Catalysis’ mandate includes the components in the early part of the fuel cell and hydrogen value chain, namely catalysts and catalytic devices.
The overall objective of the HySA Infrastructure is to become a significant player in the renewable hydrogen production and storage research and development (R&D), leading to the development and application of new products, hydrogen storage materials and processes which improve the competitiveness of South African industry and the quality of life of all South Africans. HySA Infrastructure develops applications and solutions for hydrogen production to be used in fuel cells and energy storage applications through innovative research and development.
Initiated by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and approved by the Cabinet in May 2007, the HySA programme has three centres of competencies and each centre has a unique responsibility, but all three are complementary within the common vision of fostering proactive innovation and developing the human resources required to undertake competitive R&D activities in the field of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies
