The Naledi3d Factory (Pty) Ltd
The Naledi3d Factory creates VR/XR simulations, 3D animations and 3D 360° virtual tours/digital twins.
Naledi3d Factory is here to help you to take advantage of visual and interactive media to convey ideas and processes and communicate concepts visually. We have worked in many fields, including industrial training, safety (OHS), TVET skills and STEM education, health, sustainable energy, agriculture and heritage. We enjoy creating applications that impact the upliftment of African communities and were the first to use VR to enhance the lives of underprivileged communities, as far back as 2000.
Some context to a project we are working on - using 3d modelling and virtual tours to bring this little-known piece of history into the public space.
Concentration camps in the South African War? Here are the real facts A British Conservative MP has brought concentration camps during the South African War back into the spotlight.

In today’s Throwback Thursday, we look to June 2008, when the IEEE Computer Society’s Computer Graphics and Applications Journal published a fascinating article penned by the Naledi3d Factory on the transformative potential of Virtual Reality (VR) in the context of human development in Africa. In the article, we introduced the concept of “interactive 3D learning objects” (i3dlo’s) as efficient and compact 3D knowledge modules that could be easily localised (in terms of language) and used to address many local learning needs.
Looking back, our article from 15 years ago, written by Dave Lockwood and Erik Kruger, shows the pioneering thinking at the time and envisioned a future where VR could easily catalyse positive change across Africa and beyond.
This work reminds us of technology’s incredible potential for enhancing human development and breaking down barriers in the parts of the world which need this the most.

Congratulations to the Springboks. From Paris to the World Cup final!🏉 The journey continues in the final. A huge shout out to England Rugby for the epic showdown. 🥳 🇿🇦
For Heritage Day this year, our contribution, as part of a National Heritage Council project, we have finalised the 3D digitization of over twenty-five gravestones found at the Anglo-Boer War Dry Harts African Concentration Camp 😀 https://lnkd.in/dNTcPcQr
The Dry Harts camp was one of over one hundred camps dedicated to African Women and children. Archaeological research by Dr. Garth Benneyworth has revealed that official British records documented approximately 420 deaths at the camp, yet at least 2,000 grave sites have been found at the site.

Throwback Thursday to our journey of beekeeping in Zimbabwe! 🐝🌍
Working together with World Links Zimbabwe and funded by the WK Kellogg Foundation, we collaborated with small-holding farmers in five Zimbabwe Districts. Through the power of VR, we delved into the intricacies of beekeeping, showcasing hive construction, swarm management, bee protection, and the art of equipment and honey extraction. 🎮🍯
Our VR learning system, offered in both Shona and English, made this knowledge accessible to all. 📚https://naledi3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Bee-keeping.pdf

Throwback to the 2007 game-changing project – Maintaining Water Quality💧!
🔙 Taking a trip down memory lane to our impactful past! 🔙
As cholera remains a pressing concern in South Africa, we can't help but reminisce about our work with small-holding farmers in Zimbabwe🌍✨.
One of our remarkable accomplishments was developing an app focused on constructing safe, ventilated, and ventilated pit latrines, while ensuring the integrity of the water table.
This project was implemented in five Districts. People went out of the workshops and fixed up their pit latrines📲🚽💦. During the 2008 Zimbabwe cholera outbreak, not a single case was reported in the areas we had worked in.
🙌 This extraordinary outcome emphasizes the immense power of visual communication.
Embracing the Vibrant Spirit of Africa on this Special Day. Happy Africa Day from The Naledi3d Factory!🌍🎉
Why does VR and XR matter? Now!
VR and XR empower people, especially in Africa, overcoming digital divide and learning barriers. They show, not tell, enhancing comprehension and memory retention. VR transforms how we learn and communicate concepts, making it 4IR's digital transformation in action.
Let's harness their power to empower everyone in the digital age!

The Metaverse: Hype or Reality?
The Metaverse has seen a captivating journey upwards and a possible fall. Recently, we have seen more articles talking about its demise and of major companies like Apple, Meta and Microsoft, who invested billions, but are now laying people off and moving on to generative AI.
Is the Metaverse still the future of the internet, as Zuckerberg claimed? What happened to digital land being the next frontier in real estate? Was it a groundbreaking innovation or simply a clever ploy to win over investors?
The bigger question is, how do we chart a path towards sustainable innovation? We know what Elon Musk thinks - https://youtu.be/Ai-gJQ99ci0.
What do you think? We'd love to hear your thoughts below!

We posted a couple of weeks ago about our new National Heritage Council-funded project to bring out in 3D the African experiences in the British concentration camps that were established during the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902.
We're thrilled to have now started the work, and here's a sneak peek – we are building a 360° virtual tour of the SA War Museum in Bloemfontein (Mangaung), which will give us a platform to show the horrific African experience of these camps.
We're proud to support the innovative minds behind Suave Travel and Toiv Natas as they showcase their new SME in the VR business💡🙌.
An unknown piece of South African history is now coming to life in 3D. We will be airing the untold story of African women and children in the Anglo-Boer War concentration camps. Tens of thousands of Afrikaner women and children died, yet many more African Women and children died.
The SA National Heritage Council has awarded a project to bring this little-known story to a global audience digitally and in interactive 3D, working with the War Museum of the Boer Republics in Mangaung (Bloemfontein) and Dr Garth Benneyworth of Sol Plaatjie University Shining a light on the forgotten victims of history.
At Naledi3d Factory, we don't just create VR/AR experiences - we create unparalleled interactive experiences that meet your unique needs.
Our goal is to understand your vision and goals and to bring them to life through innovative and original VR/AR solutions. Whether it's for your staff, customers, or community, we're here to help you elevate your brand and message.
The Jansen's called us to create a 360° virtual tour of their house🏡. It was on the market through an estate agent but sold within three days of posting the 3D scan. The buyer saw the virtual tour on the estate agent site, asked to view the property, and purchased it on the spot. We are chuffed🙌…
Our incubated SMEs outshine themselves
Over the past two years, Naledi3d has supported two new South African Creative Industries Incubator (SACII) SMEs. They had a fantastic opportunity to shine this week when they showcased their VR business offerings at a Gauteng Province event at SACII on 28 February 2023.
This event centered on a meeting of nearly 100 delegates from the Province, its three municipalities and various agencies to coordinate activities supporting the Municipal District Delivery Model (MDDM).
Xoliswa (Sauve Travel), a tour guide when the pandemic hit, is now building an online business using 360 cameras and drones to offer live virtual tours of local places of interest; she often includes a historic angle into her narrative. Sthembiso (TOIV Natas) also uses 360° cameras to take local live music events to a global audience.
And indeed, they certainly shone on the day.
