Entries to PlatAfrica 2024 are now open! This year’s theme – Legacy and Beyond, exploring expressions of what we leave behind. What spectacular creations will this year’s entrants conjure? This year marks 100 years since Dr Merensky unveiled a treasure trove of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) in the Bushveld Igneous Complex, adding to the allure of 2024’s theme.

Metal requests should be submitted as soon as possible and final requests must be received on or before 3 June 2024. Participants must submit their design pieces by 26 July 2024. Adjudication will take place in August 2024.

Please be aware that this patina is specifically formulated for bronze and is not suitable for use on brass.

Instructions for achieving the best results:

Mix 5ml of Bronze Patina with 300ml of hot water.
For optimal effects, prepare the surface by sandblasting bronze or silver.
Submerge the prepared part in the hot Bronze Patina solution for 20 to 30 seconds.
Rinse the treated part thoroughly in clean water and gently tap dry.
Elevate your metalworking projects with Bronze Patina, creating finishes that capture the essence of timeless craftsmanship.

The forge chamber is built like a tank, vibratory cast from top-notch high-heat refractory cement, and it laughs in the face of 1350 degrees Celsius. It's easy to operate, and at 40kPa pressure, it sips on LP Gas like a fancy cocktail, only about 0.5 kg per hour.

LILY - The Eton College Chalice, hand chased and repoussé chased in Sterling silver, commissioned for the Chapel in 2018. At the same time .kelly who taught me chasing and repoussé 10 years previously at was commissioned to make some spectacular altar candlesticks. I was lucky to have the opportunity to deliver the Chalice to Eton and attend a service in the chapel where I saw that year's boys processing in the new silver.

The chalice is inspired by the journey of life, starting with unopened lily buds which ascend the stem and gradually open, culminating in an open lily flower at the top, symbolising the blossoming of life. The lily is one of the symbols of Eton.
