We're extremely proud of Suné Jacobs, one of our final year students from our Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at University of Pretoria, for winning the 2024 SAIIE Award for Best Industrial Engineering Work conducted in Industry!

Suné conducted a feasibility study for FlySafair to test the viability of implementing a Self-Bag Drop System at major airports. The study used discrete event simulation modeling to determine the required number of stations and analyse potential time reductions in customer queues for different fare classes. The results served as the Business Case for the company's consideration of this capital-intensive, multi-vendor project.

We are celebrating
at the Spring Graduation at the University of Pretoria (UP). The Department of Construction Economics congratulates no less than four Quantity Surveying (QS) PhD and one Construction Management CM) graduate who were awarded their degrees at the Spring Graduation Ceremony on 2 September 2024. This is a remarkable achievement for the Department.

Switching to ‘green steel’ could cut these emissions by 90% and help to limit global temperature increases, according to Prof Charles Siyasiya of UP’s Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, who delivered his inaugural address, titled ‘Advances in steel design and processing to curb greenhouse emissions’, earlier this month.
