The planned National Shutdown, organized by certain political parties and unions, to take place on the 20th of March 2023 refers.

We are very much aware that the public is very concerned about what may happen on this day and what the consequences may be. The looting of KZN and certain parts of Johannesburg is still fresh in the minds of law-abiding citizens, and now, more than ever, we need to be proactive and extremely vigilant, especially during the day of the planned National Shutdown.

PROSEC CITR 247 reaction officers will be deployed to monitor the areas and keep a watchful eye on identified “hot spots”.

The Community Policing Forums are part and parcel of this dynamic group of people and play a vital role as “eyes and ears” of the operational ground forces. The main issue expected, will be the blocking of the main routes and people should restrict travelling on the day under discussion.

Intimidation and threats towards businesses and innocent shoppers may occur and that is why it is suggested to rather avoid Public places and shopping malls.

A few guidelines to follow during this period

BE ALERT!
Please monitor routes and stay away from areas where there are confirmed reports of unrest or violence.

DO NOTE ENGAGE!
Should you come across protestors or large groups of people, take another route and refrain from engaging with them.

DO NOT SHARE FAKE NEWS!
Do not share any photos, video material or voice messages that are not specifically confirmed, on social media or other platforms. Fake news causes unnecessary panic and anxiety, which could lead to irresponsible behavior.

ALWAYS HAVE YOUR DEVICES CHARGED!
Have your communication devices such as cell phones charged, as to enable you to report suspicious behavior or criminal activities. The same principle applies to rechargeable lights and equipment used during load shedding. Should power outages occur, be it due to load shedding or any other reason, be prepared.

THINK ABOUT YOUR & OTHERS SAFETY!
Communicate the situation with your employees and take note of what they report from the ground root level. Take the risk into consideration when expecting them to travel to and from the workplace.
