The WorldSkills International Competition 2024 concluded yesterday in Lyon, France, with a breathtaking finale at the Closing Ceremony, marking the end of a week-long showcase of intense competition and global thought leadership. Now, 1,400 skilled Champions embark on the next step of their skills journey.

Philippus Saayman represented South Africa in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning skill category at the WorldSkills International Competition, where he was awarded the 'Best of Nation' medal.
This prestigious award recognizes the top competitor from each country who achieves the highest points across all skill categories. As the top performer for Team South Africa, Philippus demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication to his craft. Congratulations to our champion 🎊 🥳 🎊

South Africa, an affiliated member country since 1990, shines at the competition. Team South Africa comprises 26 talented youth from TVET Colleges representing a demographically balanced mix of gender, race, and province.
Participating in the WorldSkills competition has immense potential to drive skills development and impact socio-economic growth.
The competition results will be announced this evening at the closing ceremony.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024 represents the culmination of rigorous training from Competitors, supported by dedicated Experts.
The impact from the Competition goes beyond medals—which will be awarded at Closing Ceremony on 15 September.
“This experience will have forged some long-lasting friendships and professional networks. It will have raised their profile with future employers. And it will have honed some important life skills, everything from time management and working as a team, to resilience and self-confidence. These technical and life skills will now be a springboard to help them propel into new careers and opportunities,” said Jane Stokie, Director of Skills Competitions at WorldSkills.

and Stanley Black & Decker celebrated ten years of global partnership, with a ceremony during WorldSkills Lyon 2024 .
Chris Humphries, President of WorldSkills, and David Hoey, CEO of WorldSkills International presented Marty Guay, Vice President of Stanley Black & Decker, with a certificate that was both an acknowledgement of the milestone and a recognition of the strength of the partnership.
“Our 10th anniversary shows the importance of this movement to build trades’ capacity and build skills locally, regionally, and globally. There isn’t a place in the world that doesn’t need more trades. Together, we’ve activated the passions, hopes, and dreams of young people. They are the future who will build the world," Marty said.
The 47th WorldSkills International Competition in Lyon, France, has come to a close. SABC News caught up with competitors after they completed their tasks. The competition results will be revealed at the closing ceremony on Sunday, 15th of September 2024.
Mr. Zukile Mvalo, Deputy Director-General for Skills Development in the Department of Higher Education and Training, was interviewed by SABC News on the sidelines of the WorldSkills competition's final day at Eurexpo in Lyon, France.

Kamohelo Mofokeng represents South Africa at the WorldSkills International Competition in Lyon, France, in the Fashion Technology skill category. In this skill, competitors were tasked with draping fabric on a mannequin, following a shared image, within a 2-hour time frame. The draping technique is a 3D pattern-making method commonly used in the industry.
