You would like to buy a car, pre-owned.

You do what everyone should do.. you look around for the best possible price to suit your pocket.

You research the most affordable option for the car you love.

With the research you do, you find an average price and when something comes up just under this price you jump at it.

Shopping for the best deals! It works. Its how EVERYONE shops.

Then you wish to trade in your current vehicle in order to buy this new car. You, again, have done your research. You see that there is an average price for your car, BUT you see one website somewhere, has advertised a vehicle, like yours,at a really high (brilliant for you) price.

This looks great to you, because you want more money for your car. . and this is how much you think dealerships should pay you for your car.

Now, reverse the situation.. Someone is now looking for your current car.. They are doing their research.

They definitely do not start looking at the most you can purchase this car for.. you start at the other end of the scale.

The most affordable end.

Its human nature. . and this is exactly what my thought process was until I started in this industry.

We can advertise a car at ANY price.. BUT .. are we going to sell it at that price?

This is the way things work in the motor industry. We will buy your car at book value minus any major reconditioning that would need to happen on the car.

We then pay someone to carry out all repairs to the vehicle. Ie. fix windscreens, carry out services, replace brakes/clutch/tires etc..

We pay for this.. So we bought your car for R100 000 paid R12 000 for all repairs. This car is retailing for R135 000. We can't sell it for anything more.

Often, we make a loss because the cars needed more work than what the client informed us of at the point of trade in.

This is why you pay slightly above normal retail rate. Because with buying from McCarthy, you buy a quality guaranteed vehicle.

You can always find your car at a lower price elsewhere, but you have no gaurantees
