Dr. T. Sediane - Licensed Marriage Officer

🌍 Recognizing Customary Marriages πŸ’

Did you know that customary marriages are legally recognized in South Africa? According to the of Customary Marriages Act, 1998 (Act No. 120 of 1998), a customary marriage is valid if it complies with the customs of the relevant community and is registered with the Department of Home Affairs.

Points to Remember:

1. Recognition: Customary marriages are considered legal as long as they follow the customary law and are registered.
2. : While registration is not required for validity, it is highly recommended to ensure legal proof of the marriage.
3. : The Act ensures equality for spouses in customary marriages, particularly regarding marital property and rights.

πŸ“ƒ "A customary marriage entered into after the commencement of this Act is valid only if both parties to the marriage are above the age of 18 years and consent to be married to each other under customary law." (Section 3 of the Recognition of Customary Marriages Act)

πŸ’¬ Have questions or need assistance with your marriage registration? Feel free to contact me directly or drop a message!

πŸ•ŠοΈ Freedom Park Youth Day Festival: Remembering 1976 πŸ•ŠοΈ

πŸ”Έ Brief History of the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising πŸ”Έ

πŸ“… Date: June 16, 1976
πŸ“ Location: Soweto, South Africa

✊ What Happened?

On June 16, 1976, thousands of black students from Soweto, led by the South African Students Movement's Action Committee, organized a peaceful protest against the mandatory use of Afrikaans in schools. They were met with brutal police force.

🚫 Why Did It Happen?

The apartheid government's policy imposed Afrikaans as the medium of instruction for certain subjects, which was seen as a tool of oppression. Students demanded the right to be taught in their native languages.

πŸ”« The Clashes

Police fired teargas and live bullets to disperse the students. The first to be shot was 13-year-old Hector Pieterson, whose image, captured by photographer Sam Nzima, became an iconic symbol of the uprising.

πŸ“ˆ Impact and Aftermath

The uprising spread across South Africa, leading to increased resistance against apartheid. It drew global attention to the harsh realities of apartheid, significantly influencing the country’s political landscape.

🌍 Legacy

June 16 is now commemorated as Youth Day in South Africa, honoring the courage and sacrifice of the students. It serves as a reminder of the role young people play in the fight for justice and equality.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Let’s honor their legacy by continuing the fight for freedom and equality. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Feel free to share this message to spread awareness about the significance of June 16, 1976. πŸ™ NO Limits Youth Association I Am A Dreamer Foundation Platinum Village Secondary School Lwazi institute of learning Freedom Park Secondary News Asavela Peko Foundation
