Great race with my daddy this Freedom Day morning! Pretty flat run compared to the Two Oceans Half that was two weeks ago but this one felt tougher 🤣🤦🏽♀️ Really pushed hard for a sub 2 hour but the legs are EINA so very keen to take some time off to rest, reset and get back to training and aim to do another race at the end of June 😄
Time to rehab my calf as well… the last 3km climb to the finish was OUCHIE!🫣🤣
Happy with another PB though so no complaints here 🤩🥂
Super proud of my hubby, mommy and mommy in-law for tackling the 10km as well 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 you guys smashed it!

After months of behind the scenes planning, today we are officially taking over from the BRILLIANT Clynton van Sittert () as he and his family prep to leave for their new chapter abroad ✈️
Clynton, thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me in taking over your incredible 10 year old practice that you have built so beautifully, and for agreeing to stick around for the next few months to help with the transition process and handing over your amazing patients to us🙏 Our goal as a practice is to continue your legacy, create even more memories and to build onto the strong foundation that you have spent so many successful years laying down 💪🏼
I am so excited for this new chapter and cannot wait to see where it takes us 😁🥂

With the end of 2022 only a few days away, I’ve definitely spent some time reflecting on the year that was and wow, was it one to remember 😱
My highlights:

✨ Started another extension the the practice - Hydrotherapy
✨ Spent months planning my own wedding.
✨ WE GOT MARRIED!!!

✨ Made LOADS of unforgettable memories!
I am so proud to say that the practice is doing better than ever and I am so grateful for each and every patient, friend, colleague, referring practitioner and family member who has supported me in this crazy journey!! I’ve been pretty MIA on the gram this year and here is why…
Okay so as you all would’ve seen, December was a crazy one for me!😂 it never stopped and I also didn’t get a holiday, but we decided to take one in Jan rather as it’s the off season and will allow us to just relax more😍
Even though it was lovely and very restful, I feel like since being back from holiday, I’m still having to play catch up!😥🤦🏽♀️ I have so much going on at the moment that I feel like I’ve been snowed in with work a bit and by taking a holiday in Jan, I now feel like I’m a bit on the back foot😵💫
I do however, feel like this week I’m a bit more on it and hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be on top of everything again😁 haha, I suppose that’s just reality about running and trying to grow your own business 🤭😂
I also have a few exciting announcements coming up so stay tuned 😍👏🏻
This super star hasn’t even been working for Melissa Adamo Biokineticist for a full 6 months yet and has already bought her first set of brand new wheels!🤭🤩👏🏻
Words cannot describe how proud I am of her hard work and dedication! Not only is she one heck of a hard worker, but she is also an insane Biokineticist 😍 and so passionate about the profession! What a privilege it is to have you work for me, Julia!😅

Let’s talk muscle growth!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
After your workout, your body repairs or replaces damaged muscle fibers through a cellular process where it fuses muscle fibers together to form new muscle protein strands or myofibrils. These repaired myofibrils increase in THICKNESS and NUMBER to create muscle hypertrophy (growth).
This adaption, however, does not happen while you actually lift the weights. Instead, it occurs while you REST 🥱😴
So what factors affect muscle growth??
✨ Muscle tension
✨ Muscle damage
✨ Metabolic stress
✨ Hormones
✨ Rest and nutrition
If your goal is to build muscle you must force your muscles to adapt by creating SRESS that is different than the previous threshold your body has already adapted to. This is can be done by lifting heavier weights (progressive overload), continually changing your exercises so that you can damage more total muscle fibers and pushing your muscles to fatigue! Thereafter, you need to give your body the right nutrition and enough time to rest in order to assist in the repairing of your muscle fibres (this is when the magic happens).
General rule of thumb based on your goals:
🍖Muscle hypertrophy (increase in size) = 6-12 reps per set with 30-90s rest between sets
🏋🏽Muscle strength = 4-8 reps per set with 2-3 mins rest between sets
🏃🏻♀️Muscle endurance = 12-20 reps per set at 50% or your one rep maximum with 1-2 mins rest between sets
Can you see how specific your training needs to be in order to achieve a specific goal!? Muscle building cannot and will not happen overnight! It requires hard work and proper understanding of nutrition, hormone control, rest and exercise type… And to my ladies, you cannot accidentally get “bulky” as our hormones are just not created to do that 😌
