What is Barrel Stacker?

The wine barrel stacking system consists of a welded steel barrel rack that, depending on the configuration, will hold either two or four 60-gal oak wine barrels. The rack-barrel combinations are carried by forklifts and placed in vertical stacks up to 6 barrels high, approximately 18.5 ft tall.

What is the purpose of a wine barrel?

The barrel imparts hundreds of different substances/chemicals to the wine. Some of the most important are tannin, sugar and vanilla aromas. The barrel also has another, more indirect effect. It allows for a slow and controlled oxygenation (not oxidation) of the wine, which helps to give a rounded and mature wine.

How high should barrels be stacked?

Stacking height should be restricted to three-high when the specific gravity of the lading exceeds 1.5 or when the ambient temperature is expected to exceed 30°C (86°F) for prolonged periods of time
