Since 2011, the Stud Game Breeders have actively contributed to transforming the South African wildlife and conservation industry by creating opportunities for young people to enter this industry as a career choice. The Stud Game Breeders have established a sustainable partnership with Tshwane University of Technology TUT and an outstanding track record in supporting the mission and vision of the university to train Future-ready graduates who make a positive societal impact, while transforming the wildlife and conservation sector. This financial support began in 2011, with only two beneficiaries of the Stud Game Breeders bursaries worth R70 000. Today, the number has grown exponentially from two students to a total of 266 students supported to date and bursaries that have been awarded over the past 13 years totalling R8.75 million.

Congratulations to Dr. Khethiwe Mtshali, a Lecturer in our Biomedical Sciences department, on her Y2 NRF rating!

Dr. Mtshali's research in molecular diagnosis of infectious and zoonotic diseases has led to significant discoveries and a better understanding of these diseases.

Her work focuses on:

- Detecting diseases in freshwater snails and animals
- Exploring bacterial communities in cattle and sheep
- Identifying tickborne pathogens in dogs, cats, and livestock

With 8 publications under her belt, Dr. Mtshali's expertise in molecular microbial ecology and next-generation sequencing techniques is truly impressive. Her dedication to her work has led to a better understanding of infectious diseases, ultimately improving human and animal health.
