STILL LOOKING FOR A HOME ‼️

How beautiful is Pepper ? She is a purebred black boerbul and weighs 85 kgs.
Her owners have about a month to find her a new home as they are emigrating and can not take her with.
Despite being 7 years young Pepper is in perfect health and is active and alert.
This gentle and fun loving girl is extremelly well behaved and intelligent. She is not a fan of cats and very young children and is the perfect pet for a mature family.
Although Pepper has lived on her own for the last 3 years she could be introduced to another large breed. She would love to have a friend again!
Pepper is fully house trained. She loves walks, playing with sticks and balls and tearing up cardboard boxes. She is very obedient and loyal and is not at all aggressive. A real gentle giant that has an excellent sense of smell and hearing.
Can you give her a chance of becoming your loyal and devoted friend?

To adopt PEPPER please complete our application form and email to [email protected]

Over 40 million South Africans depend on animal welfare organisations to support their pets. However, these establishments are under immense strain and can only assist a fraction of this population, leaving countless animals without access to basic veterinary care.

Unsterilised male dogs and cats significantly contribute to the overpopulation crisis. They can impregnate numerous females in a short time, resulting in countless unplanned litters.

So... to sterilise or not to sterilize?
For more info about rates and to book your pet's spay or neuter at The Ridge Vet and Pet Spa call 031 566 4505 or email [email protected]

Today is International Homeless Animals Day - a crucial time to raise awareness about the countless animals in need of loving homes 💔

Here are three ways you can help:

1. Donate to your Local Shelter or Animal Rescue : 🐾

Shelters and rescues play a big role in spaying and neutering/caring for homeless animals mitigating dog and cat overpopulation. Chances are, they could use your support. If you cannot donate financially, donate your time and volunteer to help!

2. Spay or Neuter Your Pet:🐾

Spaying or neutering is a simple way to reduce animal abandonment rates, improve the health and longevity of your pet, decrease the overall cost of care, and prevent the deaths/neglect of millions of cats and dogs worldwide.

3. Adopt or Foster:🐾

With overpopulation often a burden on shelters, volunteering your home and your time by fostering one of their dogs or cats for a few weeks can make a world of difference. Even if you can’t commit to permanent adoption, fostering is a viable way for many of us to support shelters!

Together, we can make a difference! 🐾

Woodrock Animal Rescue is deeply concerned about the issue of animal hoarding. This situation involves individuals who accumulate a large number of animals while failing to meet basic standards of nutrition, sanitation, and veterinary care. Often, these individuals do not address the worsening health conditions of the animals, leading to disease, starvation, and in severe cases, death.

Woodrock frequently encounters hoarding situations and has been active in efforts to mitigate, educate, and change these circumstances. However, when a hoarder is unwilling or unable to learn, it becomes extremely challenging. Taking in 50 dogs from a hoarder is beyond our capacity, making it impossible to operate the shelter efficiently. In such cases, we must involve the officials, who are better equipped to handle these situations. We fully support their work and acknowledge that we cannot do what they can.

Animal hoarding is a serious problem for Woodrock Animal Rescue and the broader rescue community. It's important to understand that love is not hoarding—these are entirely different situations.

Micro chipping your pet is the best way to get your pet home if they get lost. Microchips are a permanent form of identification that cannot be lost or removed. If your pet is found and brought to a shelter or veterinarian, they will be scanned for a microchip and the information can be used to contact you.

It can also help to prove ownership in the event of a dispute. If someone claims that your pet is theirs, a microchip can be used to prove that you are the rightful owner.

Overall, microchipping is a great way to protect your pet and give you peace of mind. If you are considering microchipping your pet contact us for an appointment, more information and rates:

South Africa’s very first museum of dogs opening TOMORROW 10/08/2024

The Museum of Dogs, markedly South Africa’s very first museum of its kind, will open its doors on Saturday, 27 July 2024. The museum is located on Keerom Street in Cape Town’s city centre.

Karel van der Vyver is the founder of this unique museum. It will be housed in an old historical building in Gardens, Cape Town.
The building is a remarkable 350-year-old building.

Van der Vyver grew up in a household where there were always dogs. His aim is to make the museum a place for dog lovers to gather.

“My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” Henry Ford

What can visitors expect from the museum of dogs?

The museum is essentially a dedication to celebrating dogs and their roles in our society as companions, comforters, and also friends. Included in the experience when visiting the museum will be interactive displays. Additionally, visitors will be able to listen to stories by dog owners about their dogs.

Furthermore, the museum will feature a brief overview of the history of dogs in South Africa. It will also have a photography exhibition by Johannesburg-based pet photographer Emma O’Brien, and visitors can watch short films about dogs from around the world.

Emma has been working as a professional photographer for over 17 years and her photography has won her several awards. Hailing from the UK, she moved to South Africa in 2009 and has become one of the country’s most sought after dog photographers.

Visitors will have a chance to become part of the museum’s collection by writing down their stories about their dogs in a dedicated book at the museum. Staff members will select suitable stories to include in the displays.

The Museum of the Dog in America
There is a similar museum located in New York City in the US – The American Kennel Club (AKC) Museum of the Dog. At this museum there are over 180 pieces of canine-inspired artwork. Additionally, there are interactive digital exhibits. The AKC Museum of the Dog features a book collection that is one of the largest libraries devoted to dogs in the world.

Advice from The Ridge Vet and Pet Spa 🐾
Teach Your Children to care about, love and respect animals 🐾

We believe that fostering a deep bond between children and animals is essential for creating a compassionate and harmonious society. Here are some tips to help you nurture your child's love for animals:

Lead by Example:
🐾Show your own compassion:
Children learn by observing. Demonstrate kindness and respect towards all animals.

🐾Responsible pet ownership:
If you have pets, involve your children in their care. This teaches responsibility and empathy.
Educate and Empower:

🐾Teach about animals:
Share interesting facts about different species. Explain the importance of animal welfare.

🐾Visit animal shelters:
These visits can be eye-opening and inspire compassion.

🐾Read stories and watch movies:
Many children's books and films feature heartwarming animal characters.

🐾Hands-On Experiences:
Volunteer at animal shelters: This can be a rewarding experience for the whole family.
Visit farms or animal sanctuaries. These outings provide opportunities to learn about animals in their natural habitats.

🐾Encourage responsible interactions:
Teach children how to approach and handle animals safely.

Celebrate Animals:
🐾Adopt a pet: If you're ready, welcoming a pet into your family can teach children about commitment and unconditional love.

🐾Create a pet-friendly environment:
Ensure your home is safe for both pets and children.

🐾Celebrate animal-related holidays:
Events like World Animal Day can be a great way to learn and celebrate.

Remember: Every interaction with an animal is an opportunity to teach your child about respect, empathy, and the importance of caring for all living creatures.
