By supporting conservation efforts and educating our youth about the importance of wildlife, we can ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty of Kruger National Park. This Women’s Month, we celebrate the powerful legacy of the Women’s Charter, adopted at the Founding Conference of the Federation of South African Women in Johannesburg on 17 April 1954. This charter unites women of all races and backgrounds in the fight against discrimination and inequality. It declares:

"We, the women of South Africa, wives and mothers, working women and housewives, African, Indians, European and Coloured, hereby declare our aim of striving for the removal of all laws, regulations, conventions and customs that discriminate against us as women..."

Today, we continue to uphold the principles of the Women’s Charter, striving for equality, justice, and empowerment for all women. Let’s honor this historic document by advancing its vision in our communities and beyond.

This Women’s Month, we echo the powerful battle cry of South African women: ‘Wathint’ abafazi, wathint’ imbokodo’ – You Strike a Woman, You Strike a Rock. This phrase, born from the courage and resilience of the women who marched in 1956, continues to inspire us. We honor their legacy and commit to advancing women's rights and empowerment. Together, let's create a world where every woman can thrive.

✨ Commemorating Nelson Mandela International Day 2024 ✨

Join us, UN Youth of South Africa (UNYA SA), as we celebrate Nelson Mandela Day 2024!

On July 18th, we come together to honor the incredible legacy of Nelson Mandela on Nelson Mandela International Day. This day is not just a tribute to Madiba's life and his 67 years of service to humanity, but also a call to action for each of us to make a difference in our communities.

Why is Nelson Mandela International Day important?

Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to fighting for freedom, justice, and equality. His unwavering commitment to human rights, democracy, and reconciliation continues to inspire us all. By commemorating this day, we reaffirm our commitment to these values and take steps towards creating a better world for all.

How can the youth get involved?

Youth have the power and responsibility to drive positive change. Here's how you can join in:

Volunteer Your Time: Dedicate 67 minutes (or more!) to community service. Whether it's cleaning up a park, helping out at a local shelter, or mentoring young students, every action counts.

Advocate for Change: Use your voice on social media to spread awareness about issues like poverty, inequality, and climate change. Share inspiring stories, educate others, and promote initiatives that align with Mandela's values.

Support Sustainable Projects: Participate in or initiate projects that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Plant trees, create community gardens, or support local green initiatives. Learn more about the SDGs:
https://sdgs.un.org/goals

Attend the TEDxJohannesburgSalon: On July 18th, join us at the Gordon Institute of Business Science for an inspiring TED Talk event focused on the 17 Global Goals. Learn from visionary leaders and change-makers who are making a real impact. Tying into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

Nelson Mandela's vision aligns perfectly with the SDGs, which aim to eradicate poverty, combat climate change, and ensure peace and prosperity by 2030. By engaging in Mandela Day activities, we contribute to these global goals and promote a culture of peace and equity.

Let's honor Mandela's legacy by taking meaningful action and making a positive impact in our communities. Remember, “It is still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity.”

Join us in celebrating and let's make this day count!

Together, we can create a better future.

This Youth Month, Remember the Flame!
South Africa's Youth Day isn't just about celebrating young people. It's about remembering the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for a better future. On June 16th, 1976, Soweto students bravely stood up against an unjust education system. Their actions sparked nationwide protests and became a turning point in the struggle against apartheid. ✊

But why is this history still relevant today?

Let's talk about it!

What challenges do young people in South Africa still face? ⚖️
How can the spirit of the Soweto Uprising inspire us to create a better future? ✊
Does Youth Day still hold its significance in modern South Africa? Why or why not?
Let's honor the past by building a brighter future! Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments.

Let's keep the conversation going!

The future leaders, innovators, and changemakers face significant challenges that threaten to hold them back. United Nations Youth South Africa is highlighting some key issues:

Crushing Unemployment: With youth unemployment exceeding 50%, South Africa needs investment in job creation schemes, relevant skills training that goes beyond menial tasks, and strong entrepreneurship programs to empower young people.

Education Inequality: Not everyone has access to a quality education. UN Youth South Africa demands equal access to resources, technology, and qualified teachers in all schools, particularly in underprivileged communities.

Violence and Crime: Safer communities are essential. UN Youth South Africa advocates for community programs, support for at-risk youth, and improved policing to create a peaceful future.

Mental Health Matters: Mental health struggles are real. UN Youth South Africa pushes for more counselors in schools, affordable mental health services, and an end to the stigma surrounding mental health so young people can access the support they deserve.

is a call to action. It's about equipping young people with the tools and resources they need to flourish.

Share your thoughts! The comments section is open for:

Personal experiences with these issues.
Ideas for solutions! How can we collectively create a brighter future for South Africa's youth?

Let's make this Youth Month one to remember! The voices of South Africa's young people deserve to be heard.
