I was a bit hesitant to post it, but I’m leading the way for my little girl and speaking my truth. Here it goes…

I truly don’t believe in the generic affirmations for kids like “I am smart, I am strong, I am brave”. As adults, we know when and how to tap into these words during challenging times, but for a child with little life experience, phrases like "I am strong" or "I am brave" can feel abstract and distant. How are they supposed to understand when or where to use these? How does a simple statement make a real difference in their lives?

These affirmations are too generic and lack emotional resonance. Merely repeating a phrase does not necessarily lead to a change in behaviour or thought. To be effective, affirmations must be personal, meaningful, and emotionally charged.

That’s why I’ve always been keen on using more descriptive affirmations, that can give your child the context.

Swipe through for some ideas of affirmations that might work better. Remember, to be truly effective, affirmations should be personal and specific to your child's unique experiences and feelings. Tailor them to reflect what your child is going through or what they need to hear right now.

August is Women’s Month in South Africa, and I’m dedicating this time to empowering the next generation of girls. As a mother and business owner, I know how vital it is to nurture confidence and independence in our daughters from a very young age.

For me, female strength isn’t just about all those career opportunities, climbing corporate ladders, making money etc. It’s about having a voice and being strong in that voice. It’s about speaking your truth, expressing your feelings, and not being afraid to be who you truly are.

Empowerment begins at home, in the small moments — encouraging our girls to make decisions, take responsibility, and believe in themselves. Whether it’s through organising their day with a planner, supporting their passions, or celebrating their achievements, we’re laying the groundwork for them to grow into strong, confident women.

This month, let’s focus on giving our girls the tools they need to succeed, not just today, but for the future they’re destined to shape. The future is female, and it starts with the girls we raise today.

…using only our Basic Set 😉

Scroll to see those easy ideas that I’ve found:

1. Pegboard - how clever is this. You just must make sure it’s a metal one, they have many available in plastic now. But works amazingly well 😰

2. Magnetic black board and chalk markers - possible to make thin lines, and customize it according to your level of creativity ✨

3. White board and washi tape - or any other colorful tape to be honest. Straight lines were always a problem of mine 😂 so I would use washi tape, definitely!

4. Cricut comes to the rescue - your regular white board with cricut cutout letters and lines - neat and clean. Love it ❤️

It’s really easy to make all of that, and we are here to help with the magnets supply, or our printables too 🥰

I cannot stress more how important these visual aids are for all the children 🙏🏼

Did you know, that we sell the Basic Set separately?

It doesn’t only come with THE WEEKLY board, you can purchase it separately and arrange it on your existing planner or white board.

Will try and find some really cool ideas this week ❤️ if you are using our basic set without the board - please can you tag us or send us a pic of it?

Thank you, 🙏🏼

Brush teeth before or after breakfast? 👇🏼

I’ve always had my kids brush their teeth right after they wake up - it just made more sense in their routine. They don’t have to go upstairs again after they’ve eaten, it helps to avoid toothpaste stains on their clothes or forgetting to brush altogether. I’ve felt a bit guilty about not doing it "right," but it works for us.

However, I recently came across some research that suggests brushing before breakfast might be more beneficial. According to dentists, brushing first thing in the morning removes plaque and bacteria that build up overnight, which also causes morning breath. This can help prevent plaque buildup and protect your teeth from acids in your food. Brushing after eating can be less effective because plaque and acids are already on your teeth, and brushing too soon after eating can weaken enamel, especially if you're prone to tooth decay.

So, who knew? Maybe moms do know best after all 🤪🙈

It’s the secret to my sanity 🙈

Simplicity in a child’s world is the foundation of creativity and learning ✨

Simple design, muted colors, no distractions - kids focus only on what is important ❤️

Ever thought about what your Sunday could look like if your little ones planned the entire day?

This weekend, we're shaking things up at our house. Instead of me coming up with the plans, I've decided to let Katie and Kai take the lead. Yep, you read that right — our Sunday is going to be entirely child-led! 🙈 wish me luck!

There are the rules though:
1. No screens (yes, that means no TV, tablets, or phones).
2. No flights to other countries or cities.
3. No toy or gadget stores.
4. Must be something that all of us can participate in.
Am I forgetting any other important rule?

To start with, I’ll give them a variety of activity magnets from our Basic Set: hiking, picnics, museum visits, family gatherings, playdates, camping, movies, play centers, reading, eating out, parties, treats, beach trips, little road trips, and soooo many more magnets to choose from!

But it’s not just about that, we can also stay home and build blanket forts, have epic dance parties, bake cookies, the possibilities are endless!

So, if you're looking for a day filled with laughter, creativity, and a whole lot of surprises, just hand over the reins to your little one. It’s not so easy as it sounds though…

Have you ever done something like that? Share in the comments! 🎉✨

I've been searching for reading corner inspirations for my kids' playroom and thought I'd share some here, as we're talking about reading anyway 📚

Even though Kai reads everywhere — car, bath, school, park — I still believe that creating a cozy reading space with easily accessible books is so important. Especially for Katie, who's just learning how to read. I want to create a special nook for her where she can dive into her books comfortably ✨

Look what I found while scrolling… a list of must read books for kids of all times.

Checkout our stories for other must-reads 👆🏼

What do you think? Comment with which book would you add to that list?

12/07/2024

Had Kai's parent-teacher meeting the other day, and I was thrilled to hear that his group of friends, as soon as they finish their work, immediately open their books and start reading. It made me reflect on my own school days and how much I dreaded literature classes because I was forced to read books that I didn’t understand or couldn’t connect with.

Creating a love for reading in kids is incredibly important, but it's not something that can be forced. Children need to find their own interest in books to truly immerse themselves in the world of reading. When kids choose to read, they open doors to endless possibilities, learning, and imagination.

One key to fostering this love is to offer a variety of books that cater to their interests. Whether it’s fantasy, adventure, science fiction, or even Dog Man 🤪, the right book can ignite a passion for reading. It’s about finding that one story that captivates them and makes them want to turn the page.

I’ve seen this with Kai. By letting him pick out books that intrigue him, we’ve turned reading into an enjoyable and exciting activity rather than a chore.

In this digital age, balancing screen time with reading is crucial. While technology has its place, there’s a unique magic in the tactile experience of flipping through a book's pages.

Do you agree?

Ahead of THE DAILY planner launch, I've been playing around with it, mixing up the daily routine and chore bundles for my kids. And I wanted to chat with you about it. You know, as a parent, it's always a bit of a juggling act finding the right balance between teaching responsibility and letting kids just be kids.

When it comes to assigning chores, it’s important to consider what’s appropriate for each age group. By giving kids age-appropriate tasks, we can help them build a sense of responsibility and independence while also ensuring they’re not overwhelmed.

Scroll to see the age appropriate chores.

By gradually increasing the complexity of tasks, we can help our kids develop essential life skills and a strong work ethic. Our Chores bundle makes it easy and fun for them to keep track of their responsibilities and see their progress.

Let’s empower our children to take charge of their daily routines and chores with confidence – and maybe, just maybe, give us parents a little break in the process!

“What do I have today? What are we doing after school? When are we going to the farm? What must I pack for school?” Have you ever felt overwhelmed by these questions?

Our little ones simply like to know what’s going on. They are intelligent beings who know how to self-regulate and prepare themselves for possible triggers. They just need to know what’s happening and when.

Today is Tuesday — the perfect day to start helping your kids by giving them the gift of a structured week ❤️
