WHICH FACTORS SHAPE YOUR PET’S BEHAVIOUR?
Understanding why animals behave the way they do, especially our beloved cats and dogs, requires looking at many different aspects. Their behaviour is influenced by things like their genes, how they were raised, their surroundings, and how they interact socially. By observing and understanding these factors, we can strengthen our bond with our furry friends and make sure they have what they need to be happy and healthy.

Such a great infographic from The Sophisticated Dog.
Our canine companions are constantly showing us how they feel in so many ways, and it’s our job to listen.
If their whispers don’t work, then of course they have to ‘speak’ louder. Wouldn’t you if you weren’t comfortable in a situation?

“FREE TO GOOD HOME” IS ANIMAL RUSSIAN ROULETTE
In the world of animal welfare and pet ownership, there exists a “well-intentioned” but often overlooked practice that can lead to unforeseen consequences for our furry companions and the humans who open their homes to them. It’s the act of giving animals away for free, a seemingly generous gesture that, more often than not, conceals a host of concerns and challenges. While the intention behind such acts may be “innocent”, the reality is far more complex. When you give animals away for free or sell them to strangers, you play Russian Roulette with the lives of sentient beings.

𝙒𝙃𝙀𝙉 𝙔𝙊𝙐 𝘼𝘿𝙊𝙋𝙏......you change more than one life! 🐾 ❤
An adopted pet can enrich your life in ways both big and small.
1️⃣You give that animal a second chance.
2️⃣You make room in the shelter to save another life.
3️⃣You give those who work so hard to save lives and who are heartbroken 💔 🐾 daily, hope to just go on one more day and continue the rescue!
4️⃣Adopting from a shelter also allows you to take a stand against pet stores, puppy mills, and breeders and you do your part to put a dent in the pets-for-profit trade.
5️⃣By adopting an animal through a reputable rescue/shelter you can build a relationship with them that can really come in handy!
There is no greater kindness you can offer a frightened, confused shelter pet than a place in your heart and home. Many adoptive parents can attest to the special bonds created after adoption.
In a world where thousands of animals (about 2800 in SA alone) are humanely killed (PTS/Euthanized) EVERY DAY.....The only ethical option is adoption. No breeding is responsible when we have a massive overpopulation crisis with not enough homes, never mind good homes!
Visit your nearest reputable shelter and make a difference today! ❤ 🐾
🧠If you can’t find the pet you’re looking for locally, consider widening your search. Remember there are breed specific shelters and shelters for birds, rats, bunnies and other critters. 🦜🐇🐀
If the organization doesn't include a home check and sterilization then they are NOT A RESPONSIBLE ORGANIZATION‼️

VET-VISITS (Part 2)
When you take your pet for a bi-annual or yearly vet visit, you might not fully understand what a comprehensive veterinary wellness checkup entails. Preparing questions and taking a list of changes in behaviour, new concerns, symptoms, and supplements will help you and your veterinarian better care for your pet's health. During the visit, your vet should ask detailed questions about your pet's diet, overall condition, and environment, perform a thorough physical examination, and may likely conduct diagnostic tests to assess internal health comprehensively.

MAKING VETERINARY VISITS BETTER FOR YOUR PET, YOURSELF, AND THE VET.
Veterinary visits are an essential part of maintaining your pet’s health, but they can be a source of significant stress for pets, owners, and even veterinarians. According to research, nearly 80% of dogs experience fear, anxiety, and stress during vet visits, and for cats, the stress can be even greater due to the added trauma of being placed in a carrier and transported. However, there are several strategies that pet owners can adopt to make these visits less stressful and more manageable for everyone involved.

PROACTIVE STRATEGIES TO CUT DOWN ON VETERINARY COSTS.
As a pet owner, it’s important to understand that veterinary practices have unavoidable built-in costs, and when choosing a provider, the cost is just one of many variables you should consider. When you’re creating your household budget, it makes sense to include pet health care expenses and emergency funds as well as to be as proactive as possible when it comes to preventing lifestyle-related diseases or accidents.
