Family Responsibility Leave in Zambia
In Accordance with section 40 of Employment Code Act No.3 of 2019 (1) An employee who has worked for a period of six
months or more, shall be granted leave of absence with pay for a
period not exceeding seven days in a calendar year to enable the
employee to nurse a sick spouse, child or dependant, except that
the employer may, before granting that leave, require the employee
to produce a certificate from a medical doctor certifying that the
spouse, child or dependent is sick and requires special attention.
(2) An employee is entitled to three paid leave days per year
to cover responsibilities related to the care, health or education for
that employee’s child, spouse or dependent.
(3) The days taken as leave under this section shall not be
cumulative or deducted from the employee’s accrued leave days.

Be Specific about Your Work Experiences
This section is where you can really shine. Set out your previous roles, experience, volunteering, placements or internships. You should list these in reverse chronological order, that is, most recent first. Your most recent role should be of most importance to your prospective employer.
Yes, there is a right and wrong way to handle your work experience section.
When writing your past responsibilities or achievements, make sure to include:
1)Numbers and data. It’s more impactful to say “improved sales by 20%” than to simply say “improved sales.”
2)Timeframe. How long did it take you to get results?
3)Your actions. What did you do to make things happen?
Or, to turn this into a practical example:
Managed to improve the business revenue by over 20% in 2021 by improving the customer experience and onboarding new customers.

1. TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE
An employee whose duty station is beyond a three kilometer radius from the area of residence shall be a paid monthly of one hundred and fifty-three kwacha sixty ngwee (K153.60) for transport expenses, unless the employer provides transport for that employee.
2. LUNCH ALLOWANCE
An employee shall be entitled to a lunch allowance of one hundred and eighty kwacha (K180)per month, unless the employer provides a canteen at which the employee may obtain wholesome and adequate meals provided free of charge.
3. FUNERAL ASSISTANCE
An employer shall, in the event of the death of an employee, employee's spouse or employee's registered child, provided the following form of funeral is granted;
a. Standard coffin; and
b. Cash grant of K1,500.00

What you need to know about The Employment Code of 2019: Severance and Gratuity – Part 3
The act has explicitly stated that an employer shall pay gratuity under the two following circumstances;
At the end of a long-term contract period.
When an employees contract is terminated where it shall be paid on a prorated basis.
At the rate of not less than 25%
According to the act, severance pay shall be paid in the following instances with the prescribed calculations;
Medical Discharge – lump sum of not less than three months basic pay for each completed year of service.
Death in Service – two months basic pay for each year served under the contract of employment.
Redundancy – a lump sum of two basic pay for each year served under the contract of employment.
Expiry of a Fixed Term Contract – twenty five percent of an employee’s basic pay earned during the contract period or the retirement benefits provided by the relevant social security scheme that the employee is a member of.
Termination of a Fixed Term Contract – gratuity at the rate of not less than twenty-five percent of the employee’s basic pay earned during the contract period as at the effective date of termination.

The following class of employees are from gratuity and severance pay;
