Zambia line up against Congo
CONGO VS ZAMBIA IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS by Martin Mwale(Sports Producer/Presenter)
Two countries that have so much in common. They share about 1,930 Km of border line. We have had our soccer players play in Congo while many Congolese players are playing in Zambia right now. This means the tie will be very close to call.
Let's now break it down to finer details.
1. FIFA RANKING: Congo is ranked 52nd in the World and 13th in Africa against Zambia's 79th and 16th respectively. Will this have a bearing on the pitch tonight? I don't think so. Zambia won Afcon 2012 as a lowly ranked Nation beating Senegal, Ghana and Ivory Coast on the way and we have seen at this Afcon high ranked teams suffering at the hands of lowly ranked teams. FIFA ranking is only useful when doing draws.
2. HEAD TO HEAD: In the last five meetings Zambia and Congo have drawn 4 times with one win for Zambia meaning no loss in the last 5 meetings for Chipolopolo.
2. EXPERIENCE: Congo has a more experienced side with the youngest being 23 years old. Most of their players play in major European leagues with only a few playing in Africa. For Zambia, Only Sunzu, Lubambo Musonda and Rodrick Kabwe have been to the Afcon before, the rest are making their debut appearance with the youngest being Miguel Chaiwa who is 19 years old. Only Lameck Banda plays in one of the 5 major European leagues. Will this affect the results? It depends with mentality of players as modern football has a lot to do with mental strength and fortitude.
Zambia has so much quality; enough to overcome their opponents. DR Congo should underrate Zambia at their own peril. Zambia's young players are hungry for success and are willing to sacrifice for Mother Zambia.
3. ZAMBIA'S WEAKNESS: Zambia have been conceding almost in every game but have never lost a game where fit again Frankie Musonda has played. If Avram Grant will play his cards right at the back, it will be very difficult for Congo to survive.
4. ZAMBIA'S STRENGTH: Zambia have one of the most lethal attack at the tournament of speedy forwards. One of the best dribblers in the Italian Serie A Lameck Banda is a night mare to defenders. Saudi based Fashion Sakala is a tricky customer any day. Patson Daka has come of age and never disappoints for Country as he has been getting goals almost in every game. Talk of Lubambo Musonda, Kelvin Kampamba and Edward Chilufya; they all offer so much depth and options in attack. Our midfield is also very rich with Emmanuel Banda, Klings Kangwa, Kelvin Kapumbu, Larry Bwalya, Cletus Chama, young and versatile Miguel Chaiwa. All these great players are enough to get the job done.
5. HEAD COACHES: Both coaches( Sebastian Desabre and Avram Grant are experienced but Zambia's head Coach Avram Grant has more experience having taken Chelsea to the finals of UEFA Champions League as well as Ghana to Afcon final.
Who will win today? Football is won on four principles:
1. Be mean in defence
2. Create scoring opportunities
3. Convert your chances including half chances.
4. If they score, make sure you outscore them. Score more than you concede.
The team that will apply these four principles better will win the match.
Transfer news:
Joseph "Sabobo" Banda has signed a 5-year contract with Swiss giants FC Zurich. The player completed his move from Athletico Lusaka to FC Zurich through his agent, Nir Karin.
Sabobo, a Zambian national team player, has been part of Athletico Lusaka since the age of 15. Last year, he went on loan to Premier League club FC Nkwazi in Zambia.
He is another player from Athletico Lusaka to make a move to Europe, following in the footsteps of Miguel Chaiwa, Richard Ngoma, Gift Mphande, Kingstone Mutandwa, and others to come.
Sabobo expressed his joy, saying:
"I’m very happy to sign my first professional contract in Europe. It's a dream come true. I want to thank Athletico Lusaka for all the support and belief in me, and I would also like to thank my agent, Nir Karin, for commencing this journey with me 2 years ago. I'm eager to start my new chapter with FC Zurich."
Nir Karin shared his sentiments:
"It's a joyous day, and I wish Sabobo the very best with his new club. Many years ago, Emmanuel Mayuka played in Switzerland, setting the stage for players like Miguel Chaiwa, and now Sabobo is taking the next step. I'm hopeful that we will see an increasing number of Zambian players in the Swiss league."
It has been reported that Karin and Sabobo traveled to Switzerland together where they finalized the official contract with Zurich.
Wishing all the best to Sabobo in his future endeavors!

TERM ONE SCHOOL OPENING DATE DEFERRED
Government has postponed the opening of Schools for 2024 term one from 8th to 29th January due to the increase in the number of cholera cases.
Education Minister Hon. Douglas Syakalima has announced this in Lusaka today Wednesday January 3, 2024.
Hon. Syakalima said in order to prevent and mitigate the spread of the disease, All public, private, aided and community learning institutions, Early Childhood Education (ECE) centers, primary and secondary schools will remain closed for a further three weeks after the official opening date of 8th January, 2024.
” This means that schools will only open on Monday, 29th January, 2024. Further, the grace period which was earlier given to Grades Eight (8) and Ten (10) learners has now been overtaken and all learners are expected to open on 29th January, 2024.” Hon. Syakalima said.
The Minister has further explained that in order to catch up on the time lost, the First Term holidays will only run for one (1) week instead of four (4) weeks.
“This implies that schools will close for term one on 26th April instead of 5th April, 2024, and reopen for Term Two (2) as scheduled on 6th May, 2024.” The Minister explained.
The Minister has therefore advised parents and guardians to ensure that they prepare their children for tern two even before term one closes, in view of the short holiday time.
Hon. Syakalima said his Ministry has taken a cautious approach to reopening schools and has therefore called for consented efforts from all stakeholders in ensuring that schools are safe and ready to reopen.

PEP GUARDIOLA GIVES UPDATE ON KDB'S RETURN
=================================
Pep Guardiola says Kevin De Bruyne is closing in on a return, but added the FIFA Club World Cup may come too soon for the Belgian. De Bruyne has been included in the squad bound for the tournament in Saudi Arabia later this month, but Guardiola says he doesn’t know if he is able to take part at this point.
The Belgian has returned to light training, but is yet to train with the squad under normal training conditions.
“I think he has started to run on the pitch but hasn’t trained with us once,” said Guardiola.
“The FIFA Club World Cup is in two or three weeks. I don’t know. Maybe it’s a bit early but I don’t know (at this point)."
City have been without KDB since first Premier League game of the season against Burnley,
Guardiola acknowledged how vital De Bruyne is to his team, but is also keen not to put too much pressure on him when he does return given the serious injury he is recovering from.
“Kevin is so important,” said Pep.
“But unfortunately, he’s had a tough injury for three or four months.
“Don’t put pressure on him, when he’s back we’ll have open arms for him.
“But I’ve said to the team, do you know how we struggled to get the Treble? We were eight or nine points behind Arsenal.
“With all the problems and injuries we had. It’s normal, that’s why we gave credit to the Treble.
“The same team right now, before the game against Wolves, were one game off the best start ever for this Club.
"At the international break we were top.
"We faced Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa, they’re top teams, and it can happen.
“We didn’t deserve to win against Villa, I don’t need time to reflect.
“I don’t need ‘oh maybe we can do this’. We have to do it all together and if Kevin is here, yes, if not, okay.
“Or maybe Rodri’s not here, so I have to find a way when he’s not there.
“Last season he was almost always there so I have to find a way.”

Zambian Kwacha needs quick dosage package to moderate bad trade effects!
By: Kelvin Chisanga
The Zambian Kwacha for sometimes now, has been gripping with sagging supplies of US Dollars on the local market leading to a continuous acts of depreciations which has given about 25% culminative loss since the beginning of this calendar year in January.
However, there are measure that we need to look up to in order to control the run-away which is being currently experienced with the Kwacha's performances, and as a beginning point I think the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) seriously needs to uplift trading limits on Dollars so that we can harvest from that end especially in areas that we see with high dollar transactions like targeting the Kasumbalesa border post which has high volume of Dollarized transactions, as DR Congo has for a longest period of time been exposed as an economy with strong liquidity flowing in Dollars right within the wider market, and this border post has highly been observed to have very sound and health Dollar transactions.
Secondly, we need to start putting up some interest rates on CFC accounts so that we can make a good return on Dollar inflow and in saving investments, as most of the business players will be forced to keep Dollars in their accounts under this proposed policy. The CFC account is currently operating on interest free and it does not encourage health Dollar inflows but strongly working against with a huge part and portion of killing Dollar with firm outflow levers on the other side of demand channel of expenditures.
Thirdly, we seriously need to start monitoring our annual or perennial purchases that usually do happen both in the third and fourth quarter of each calendar year to avoid creating unwarranted pressure on the hard currency especially with the ones commanding high drive of agricultural input importations which seems to be the last minute resort sort of the model of national procurement cycle and we need to key-in with a better formula and a model for our fuel purchases to stabilize the Kwacha especially with a system of contractual agreement despite facing sharp changes in oil prices.
So, in essence Zambia as a country needs to be proactive with the outturns seen in currency performances which proves to get tough during the last few months of each running financial year particularly with the specific target around the last part of third quarter covering as well the entire fourth quarter, as it also builds up with a very heavy and aggressive demands for the hard currency, this period runs with an aspect of facing short supply coupled with high drive of Dollar harvesting situations where other key stakeholders within the market, keep forking out the green currency out of the local market.
The local forex market in Zambia has some relatively good support at times though standing not with a sustainable formula as this market is very sensitive to market dynamics and also lacks model to seeing a sustainable trading patterns owing to the serious imbalances due to insufficient supplies with export basket to match up with strong importation drive.
The Energy Regulation Board has maintained the same fuel price for this month. This news came to light at a Press briefing held today. This means that transporters, drivers and Citizens should expect no changes at least for the next 30 days after which another review will be made
